Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill to open innings against England in 5th rescheduled test: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma begins his practice for the all-important one-off fifth test match against England at Leicestershire. Sharma along with Shubman Gill, who are confirmed to open the test innings, were seen sweating out in the nets weeks ahead of the rescheduled test match.

Notably, team India shifted its base to Leicestershire from London, where the visitors will play a four-day practice match against the county side, beginning June 24. The test match will be staged at Grace Road, Leicester.

Rohit Sharma was in the sublime touch during India?s first tour of England in 2021. Sharma played a key role in India?s triumph against England as he scored 368 runs including a century.

In the video shared by the BCCI across its social media accounts, Rohit Sharma was seen having a go with the bowlers in the nets along with his opening partner Shubman Gill.?

Notably, India used the combination of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul during the 2021 tour, however, the duo won?t be seen together this time as the latter has been ruled out of the test match after suffering a groin injury. Rahul was also in great touch with his bat and slammed 315 runs along with a century at Lords.

The test match between India and England is slated to begin on July 1 at the Edgbaston, Birmingham. The two sides will then participate in the three matches T20I and as many games ODI series.

The first batch of Indian players arrived in the UK on Thursday. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Cheteshwar Pujara were among the first few players to land in the UK.

While the next set of players will board a flight to the UK soon. Indian head coach Rahul Dravid along with wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and others will be in the second batch to land in the English land.
