Vivo IPL 2021: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) one again claims the top spot in the points table after demolishing Delhi Capitals (DC) by one run in a last ball thriller in match number 22 of the VIVO IPL 2021 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Delhi Capitals (DC) chasing a good total of 171 runs could only manage to score 170 runs in 20 overs as Mohammad Siraj delivered a match winning final over.
DC openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan pulled off a flying start as both of them amassed 22 runs off just two overs.
However, Kyle Jaimeson removed Shikhar Dhawan in the 3rd over, trying to play over the third man and was caught by Yuzvendra Chahal.
Mohammad Siraj picked Steve Smith in the 4th over who came at number three for DC.
Opener Prithvi Shaw was joined by his skipper Rishabh Pant in 3.3 overs. With two early wickets, RCB bowlers built pressure on the DC batters, maximising the dot balls percentage.
The purple cap holder Harshal Patel came to bowl the eighth over and removed dangerous looking Prithvi Shaw ( 21 off 18).
Rishabh Pant and Marcus Stoinis (22 off 17) took DC close to the total however the latter was picked by Harshal Patel continuing his golden run in the tournament.
The new man in, Shimron Hetmyre clubbed quickfire 53 runs and took DC nearly over the line with his clean hitting. Hetmyre completed his half-century in just 23 deliveries.
DC required 25 off the last two overs. Harshal Patel bowling the penultimate over leaked just 11 runs and the opponents required 14 off the final over of Mohammad Siraj.
Siraj gave just four runs off his first four deliveries however conceded two consecutive fours in the last two balls. Delhi Capitals (DC) could only manage 12 runs and DC lost the game by mere 1 run.
Rishabh Pant scored unbeaten 48 balls 58 with six boundaries while Shimron Hetmyre scored unbeaten 53 off just 25 deliveries with the help of two boundaries and four sixes.
Harshal Patel once again claimed two wickets while Mohammad Siraj and Kyle Jamieson picked one apiece.
Forced to bat first, RCB made two changes in the side. Rajat Patidhar and Daniel Sams were brought in for Navdeep Saini and Daniel Christian.
RCB were also off to a good start as they managed to score 30 runs off just 3.6 overs before the wicket of Virat Kohli. The skipper was sent back by young Avesh Khan in the last ball of the 4th over.
In the very next over, Ishant Sharma removed Devdutt Padikkal (17 off 14).
Rajat Patidhar and Glenn Maxwell tried to put RCB innings back on track and scored some crucial runs.
Accelerating the run rate Glenn Maxwell was picked by danger man Amit Mishra in 8.3 overs. Maxwell scored 25 runs from 20 deliveries with the help of a boundary and two maximums.
AB de Villiers came to bat at number 5 and rescued his team effectively. Setting himself up in the initial overs, de Villiers amassed 23 runs off the last over of Marcus Stoinis to take RCB to 171 runs total.
De Villiers amassed unbeaten 75 off just 42 deliveries which includes three boundaries and five towering sixes.
Patidhar in the process scored 31 off 22 before getting trapped to Axar Patel.
For his sensible and match-winning knock, de Villiers was adjudged as the ?Man of the Match?.
