Royal Challengers Bangalore:5 Players to be Released Before IPL 2023.?
By Nikhil Patil Apr 24, 2023 6:07 AM IST
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have had a relatively successful campaign in the IPL 2022 season. The RCB management has tried many players and has given opportunities to all the youngsters. However, there are a few players that have been warming the bench too and might be released. The RCB management will be looking forward to the IPL 2023 Auction and will be keen on filling the voids of their squad. So, here is a look at the top 5 players that RCB might release before IPL 2023:
1) Anuj Rawat might be Released by RCB:
The RCB management was very keen on playing Anuj Rawat alongside Faf Du Plessis. They also backed their decision for 8 to 9 matches. This move did pay off in the initial phase of the tournament. Anuj was firing well. He was playing his illustrious cover drives and was dealing well with the short balls. Anuj hails from Delhi. However, he did struggle in the final few games until Rajat Patidar eventually replaced him. Ever since Rajat?s arrival he hasn?t given the RCB management a chance to think of any change.
The RCB management will now have to pick between both the players. They can still back Anuj and keep him along with the team. But this will keep him from the opportunities that he could get in other teams. So, it would be great for both the parties if they parted ways. Anuj scored 129 runs in 8 games.
2) Siddhart Kaul might be Released by Royal Challengers Bangalore:
The last game of the season saw the RCB management picking Siddhart Kaul in place of Mohammad Siraj. But Kaul was leaking runs. He gave 43 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Also, he remained wicketless. Miyan Magic, on the other hand, has had a decent season. Siddhart doesn?t have age on his side because as a fast bowler you have effective time till 34 or 35. Siddhart is 33 now. He does have a truck-load of experience.
He can add value to any other team that is keen on working with youngsters and Siddhart can give his expertise to those younger boys. Not writing him off because he is a champion bowler and had made a comeback to the national team back in 2019. He still has the variations and the skill-set.
3) Karn Sharma:
The amazing performance of Wanindu Hasaranga has kept the option of Karn Sharma out of the team. What doesn?t work in Karn?s favor is the fact that he is a one-dimensional player. He can certainly bat at number 8 but that is in the longer formats. Also, Glenn Maxwell and Shabaz Ahmed are giving 3 to 4 overs regularly. RCB spinners have picked a cumulative of 34 wickets this season. The second most by any team after RR. So, Karn has very slim chances of making it to the 11.
Sharma can be drafted by any of the teams like Punjab Kings or Mumbai Indians who genuinely need a good spinner. Punjab has Rahul Chahar but there is no other bowler to compliment him. Mumbai on the other hand was struggling and had to bring in Kumar Kartikeya. Karn is an experienced campaigner and has a lot to offer.
4) David Willey/Jason Behrendorff might be Released by Royal Challengers Bangalore:
David Willey and Jason Behrendorff are not falling into the scheme of things of RCB. Josh Hazlewood is doing the job for them. Both the bowlers are world-class left-arm pacers. They could have been a part of the first 11 of any other team. Again, the Mumbai Indians would be glad to have Jason Behrendorff back. David Willey has a lot to offer too. He has started batting at number 3 or 4 as a pinch-hitter. So, teams like KKR that are struggling to get runs in the powerplay can go for him.
5) Finn Allen might be Released by Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Finn Allen might be released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Finn has been with the team for over two years. It is because of the influence of Mike Hesson and his New Zealand background that Finn was drafted into this squad. Mike understands that Finn is one of the most explosive talents in world cricket. However, he has been pretty unexposed. With almost every player getting opportunities only Finn Allen and Aneeshwar Gautam didn?t get an opportunity. If RCB do not want him, they can let him go. Teams like the Gujarat Titans that are looking for young openers can definitely pick Allen. Finn is also a great fielder. His stats in T20s are unreal. He averages over 35 and scores at 165+.
