After Australian cricketers Brett Lee and Pat Cummins, former Indian cricketer Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar on Thursday donated INR 1 Crore to aid the people fighting with the second wave of global pandemic with the purchase of Oxygen concentrators in the country.
As of now, India is recording an unprecedented surge in the covid-positive cases. In the last 24 hours, India witnessed 3,79,257 cases which is the highest single day spike since the beginning of the pandemic last year.
The Indian health care system is putting-in all the efforts to win the battle against the dreaded virus however the insufficient production of Oxygen cylinders and crucial medicine in the country for Covid-19 patients is giving setbacks on a daily basis.
?His donation of Rs 1 crore to ?Mission Oxygen? in its endeavour to procure and provide life-saving oxygen concentrators to hospitals across the nation in this time of need is incredibly heart-warming,? read a statement from Mission Oxygen, which is a fund-raising initiative by Delhi-NCR based entrepreneurs for importing Oxygen Concentrator machines and donating them to hospitals in need.
Tendulkar himself was tested covid-positive earlier and had to spend some time in the hospital after doctor?s advice. He along with a couple of other cricketers who were the part of the Road Safety World Series were tested covid positive.
?The second wave of COVID has put our health-care system under immense pressure. Providing oxygen for the large number of serious COVID patients is the need of the hour,? Tendulkar wrote on his twitter handle.
?It is heartening to see how people are rising to the occasion. A group of 250+ young entrepreneurs have launched Mission Oxygen to raise funds for importing oxygen concentrators and donating them to hospitals across the country.
?I?ve helped by contributing to the cause and hope that their effort soon reaches out to many more hospitals across India. Today, we have to stand together behind everyone that is working hard to fight this pandemic.?
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals (RR) announced that the franchise will contribute INR 7.5 Crores for the fight against Covid-19. Australian and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Pat Cummins donated USD 50,000 while former Aussie pacer Brett Lee donated 1 Bitcoin which is worth INR 40 Lakhs.
