SMAT 2023: Punjab create history as they post highest ever total in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy; Abhishek Sharma slams ton

SMAT 2023: The domestic season in India is on. Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 kick-started from 16th October and so far there have been some eye-catching performances from youngsters. With the way things have panned out in just a couple of days, it’s fair to say that many T20 records will be under danger.

Punjab shattered the record of highest ever T20 total in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. They piled up a massive total of 275 runs on the board and made a mockery of Andhra Pradesh’s bowling lineup. Abhishek Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh were the key architects behind the carnage. 

Punjab is currently taking on Andhra Pradesh in the SMAT 2023 clash at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi. The first innings of the match saw history being scripted by the Punjab team as they produced a gigantic effort with the bat. 

Punjab lost Prabhsimran Singh (24) and Naman Dhir (17) after good starts and right from the start, Andhra was under pressure. However, it was a blessing in disguise for them as after that Abhishek Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh activated their beast mode and made the bowlers look clueless.

Abhishek Sharma slammed a magnificent century and ended with the knock of 112 runs in just 51 balls. On the other hand, Anmolpreet Singh ended with 87 runs in just 26 balls. The duo added 62 runs for the partnership and put their team on the top. 

Based on their solid batting display along with vital contributions from others powered Punjab to a total of 275 runs. This was the highest total in SMAT history. Apart from that they also shattered the record of most sixes hit by any Indian team. They surpassed RCB’s tally of 21 maximums which they hit in 2013. Punjab hit 22 sixes. 

With the ball they then were magnificent. They bowled pretty well and took 7 wickets of the opposition. Punjab restricted Andra to 170 runs and won the game by a margin of 105 runs.
