BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and honorary Secretary Jay Shah are set to have a term two at their offices after the Supreme Court of India accepted the proposed changes in the BCCI constitution which now allows the two personals to continue performing their duties for three more years.

Both Ganguly and Jay Shah took on their respective responsibilities in the BCCI back in October 2019 and their 3-years term was about to end. According to the previous rules of the highest cricket governing body of India, an administrative officer had to go through a 3-years cooling off period after serving two consecutive terms of 3 years either in BCCI or in any of the state cricket associations.

To stop this from happening and to abolish this rule that comes in the way of a smooth workflow, BCCI had proposed to amend their constitution so that a positive change could be brought. A committee, headed by Justice R M Lodha, was set up and it was this committee that recommended the changes in the constitution. These changes have now been accepted by the Supreme Court and we are going to discuss that.?

The Supreme Court ruled that office bearers of BCCI can have a continuous 12-years tenure - 6 years at a state cricket association and 6 years at BCCI which will be followed by a 3-years cooling off period.

"The purpose of the cooling-off period is not to create undesirable monopolies", members of the bench (Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli) said.?

Both Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah have previously served in State Cricket Associations (Sourav Ganguly in Cricket Association of Bengal and Shah in Gujarat Cricket Association). They have also served their first 3-year term and will now be able to continue discharging their duties for 3 more years without having to serve a cooling-off period. The cooling-off period will be effective after their second term though.?

Both of them have done incredible work for Indian cricket in the past three years and we hope they will continue with the good work in the coming days as well. What this change basically means is that the Sourav Ganguly-Shah duo will remain the all in all of BCCI till 2025.
