Sourav Ganguly's special message for Rohit Sharma, Dravid to win ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India: Team India has been amidst criticism for playing underwhelming cricket in the marquee ICC tournaments. It's always been a concern for the fans and experts that a team which dominates every opponent in bilateral cricket, somehow fails to make it big in the multi-nation tournaments. India's last World Cup title victory came a decade ago and now it's a perfect time for the Men in Blue to retain the crown in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Sourav Ganguly, former BCCI President, has advised Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid to pick the current squad till the ODI World Cup 2023, which will be hosted in India later in October-November.
"India can never be a weak team. A country that has so much talent can never be a weak team. Half of the players don't even get a chance. I would want Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma and the selectors to hold on to the same team till the World Cup," Ganguly told Sports Tak.
The former Indian captain added that the Men in Blues should play fearless cricket without any external pressure or baggage on their shoulders.
"When they reach the World Cup, they should play without any baggage. They should play fearless cricket, it doesn't matter if they win the trophy or not," the former BCCI president said.
"The team which has Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami... Ravindra Jadeja will come back... can never be bad," he added.
Ganguly, who will join IPL franchise Delhi Capitals as the Director of Cricket, starting IPL 2023, said he is looking forward to joining the franchise in a new capacity.
"It's just one role from another and I am looking forward to it. When I first joined hands with Delhi Capitals in 2019, the team has done pretty well since then. We will feel the void of Rishabh Pant. He is a top Indian cricketer but he is injured, we can't do much about it," Ganguly said.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant met with an accident and suffered multiple injuries which will keep him away from cricket for at least five to six weeks. The wicketkeeper batter is discharged from hospital and has headed to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for his further rehabilitation program.
