SRH vs. Delhi Capitals: Starc and Du Plessis star as Delhi overcome Hyderabad challenge by 7 wickets, Updated Points Table
Match number 10 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 took place between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. This match was the second and third match of the season for Delhi and Hyderabad respectively and the Axar Patel-led outfit secured a good win in this match.
Delhi Capitals secured a comprehensive victory, propelling them to second place in the points table. Sunrisers Hyderabad have dropped to seventh place after two consecutive losses. The bowlers set up the win for the Capitals, who have shown incredible bowling depth in their first two games.
The total of 164 was a competitive one to chase on a ground with varying pace, but it was not enough to win the match. To make their case, SRH needed early wickets in the first six overs but they didn't come. The opportunities were created, but the fielders left the bowlers disappointed.
The opening partnership was ultimately broken on 81, resulting in a mini-collapse, although by then, water had already flowed under the bridge. Zeeshan Ansari's three wickets and Harshal Patel's tight bowling were the only bright points on a gloomy day for the Sunrisers.
This game was a battle between a powerful batting team and a formidable bowling-attack. DC's highly experienced bowling-unit laid the groundwork in the first innings, allowing the weak batting lineup to comfortably chase the total.
Jake Fraser-McGurk continues to seem out of sorts, but Faf du Plessis and Abishek Porel ensured that there was no major hiccup. These are still early days, so if DC management can work out their batting lineup, they will be able to put up excellent numbers with the bat as well.
Sunrisers Hyderabad came out firing in the first innings, hoping to force DC out of the match, but they simply kept losing wickets. With the exception of Heinrich Klaasen and Aniket Verma's counterattacking 77-run partnership, in which Klaasen scored 32 and Aniket finished with 74, the batting collapsed at both ends as Mitchell Starc destroyed SRH with his first IPL 5-fer and went on to win the Purple Cap provisionally. Kuldeep Yadav provided him with good support, taking three wickets.
