Sri Lanka likely to lose hosting rights for Asia Cup 2022 due to ongoing turmoil: Sri Lanka is very much likely to lose the hosting rights of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 owing to the ongoing economic crisis. The island nation is facing its worst-ever overall turmoil in the last 70 years. Sri Lankan people have seen several weeks of blackout, and a severe shortage of food, fuel and other essential items.
Notably, Sri Lanka were slated to host the 2022?s Asia Cup from August 27 to September 11. The 15th edition of the Asia Cup, which will be played in the T20 format, is now on verge of moving out of Sri Lanka due to the political and economic crisis.
According to a report by geosuper, the island nation will certainly lose the hosting rights of the elite tournament between -India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It further suggested that the fate of the tournament will be discussed at the quarterly meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The hosting rights for the Asian tournament are likely to be transferred to another Asian country following the prevailing crisis in Sri Lanka. The meeting between the Asian cricket officials will be held in the UAE.?

Reports suggest that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raza and chief executive Faisal Hasnain are likely to attend the high profile meeting.
Notably, the Asia Cup 2022 has been postponed twice before due to the devastation caused by the unprecedented rise in covid cases.
However, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) earlier notified that this edition?s Asia Cup will be held in wake of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
