T20 World Cup 2024: Team India's vice-captain for the T20 World Cup 2024 is set to join the Indian squad in New York directly, according to a report published on Cricbuzz. The all-rounder is reportedly having amidst his vacation following the completion of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Notably, Hardik Pandya wasn't spotted with the first group of Indian players who departed for the United States on Saturday evening. Most of the Indian players, including skipper Rohit Sharma, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav, were seen at the International Airport to board their flight to the US for the impending T20 World Cup 2024.
Despite being free from his IPL duties for Mumbai Indians, Hardik didn't catch the flight with his countrymen, which sparked confusion among the fans.
This all happened amidst the rumours of his separation from his wife Natasha. If the reports are to be believed, the two are having turmoil in their relationship which has resulted in the fallout.
Hardik Pandya had a pretty stressful time at Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2024. The MI skipper had to face backlash from the MI fans throughout the entire season of the IPL for replacing Rohit Sharma.
Following the season, which saw MI finish at the bottom of the points table, Hardik flew out of the country to some undisclosed location to get some fresh air away from the sport.
However, his vacation is believed to be over now with the approaching ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. The all-rounder is expected to reunite with team India on Sunday evening in New York.
Meanwhile, barring a handful of players, the rest of Team India's T20 World Cup-bound players have already landed in New York. Among the players who are yet to join the Indians squad are Virat Kohli, who has asked the management to join the squad late, Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Avesh Khan.
Team India is scheduled to play out a warm-up game against Bangladesh on June 1 in New York, before kickstarting their campaign in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.
The Men in Blue will begin their run in the coveted tournament on June 5 with a game against Ireland. Team India's second game will be a high-octane clash against arch-rivals Pakistan. The fixture will be held in New York on June 9.
