<p><em>ICC released a complete list of ICC events for coming years under Future Tour &amp; Programme.</em></p>



<p><strong>ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP):</strong> The biggest cricket body on Tuesday released a complete list of ICC events that will be held every year, according to which the T20 World Cups will now be held every two years while the ICC Champions Trophy is brought back to action by the global body.</p>



<p>Amid these dire times when the pandemic has wreaked havoc across the globe, the global cricketing body has planned to bring out the best times for the Cricket fans.</p>



<p>According to the future tours programmes (FTPs) the inaugural World Test Championship will have another four cycles.</p>



<p>In the virtual meeting held on June 1 between the high-authority board members of the ICC, the panel confirmed the schedule of ICC events from 2024-2031. The ICC T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup will be extended with more teams joining the competition while the Champions Trophy will be re-introduced.</p>



<p>?The ICC Board today confirmed the schedule of ICC events from 2024-2031 with both the men?s Cricket World Cup and men?s T20 World Cup to be expanded and a men?s Champions Trophy to be re-introduced,? the global body said in a release issued after the board meeting.</p>



<p>The ICC ODI World Cup which earlier used to be a 10 teams affair is now expanded to 14 teams whereas the T20 World Cup is broadened to 20 teams from 16 teams.</p>



<p>?The men?s Cricket World Cup will become a 14 team, 54-match event in 2027 and 2031, whilst the men?s T20 World Cup will be expanded to a 20 team, 55-match event in 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030.?</p>



<p>The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 will remain the same with 16-teams fighting for glory.</p>



<p>?An eight team Champions Trophy will be hosted in 2025 and 2029. World Test Championship Finals will be hosted in 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031. The ICC Women?s event schedule has already been confirmed with the expansion of both the Cricket World Cup and T20 World Cup forming part of the ICC?s long-term commitment to growing the women?s game,? it further stated.</p>



<p>The ICC ODI World Cup 14 teams will be divided into two groups of seven with top three in each group advancing followed by knockout games.</p>



<p>The T20 World Cup will have four groups of five teams each and the top two teams from each group will advance to the super eight stage followed by the Knockout games.</p>



<p>The Champions Trophy will remain the same as earlier. The two groups of four teams will fight.</p>

<p>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday has decided to seek the permission of the global body to host three big ICC events in the next cycle of the Future Tours Programme (FTP), starting 2024.</p>



<p>The International Cricket Council?s (ICC?s) next Future Tours Programme will begin from 2024 to 2031.</p>



<p>The Indian board feels that the cricket rich nation will be in a position to host the ICC events every two years and will bid for the 2024 Champions Trophy along with the 2028 T20 World Cup and 2031 ODI World Cup.</p>



<p>The decision came after the office bearers of the BCCI met virtually in a Apex Council Meeting held on Sunday.</p>



<p>?Yes, we would be bidding for the 2025 Champions Trophy along with the 2028 T20 World Cup and the 2031 50-over World Cup. The Apex Council has agreed on this, in principle,? a senior office-bearer told PTI on conditions of anonymity.</p>

<p>The ICC has decided to revive the Champions Trophy, which is a short cricket event. The last champions trophy was held in England in 2017.?</p>



<p>?India will bid for the 2025 Champions Trophy after hosting the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup and the country should be in a strong position to host an ICC event every two years,? said the official.</p>



<p>The official further said that it will be in the high interest of the ICC and the BCCI that we get to host the high profile cricket event every two years.</p>



<p>Following the Champions Trophy, the board will bid for the 2028 T20 World Cup and the 2031 ICC ODI World Cup.</p>



<p>The global body has also decided to increase the number of teams in the ICC events.</p>



<p>The T20 World Cup, which used to be a 16 teams affair, will now be a 20 teams affair while the ODI World Cup has been expanded to a 14 teams event.</p>

<p>The major cricketing tournament is all set to make a comeback in Pakistan after over two decades as ICC has awarded the 2025 Champions Trophy to them.</p>



<p>As per the recent development from ICC?s next cycle of flagship tournaments, Pakistan has been rewarded one tournament while India is all set to host three major ICC tournaments during the year 2024-31. As many as 11 Full member nations and three associate member countries have been given the hosting rights of the flagship tournaments organised by ICC.</p>



<p>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will host the 2029 Champions Trophy in the next cycle. Besides this, India is also selected to co-host the 2026 Men?s T20 World Cup with Sri Lanka and the 2031 ODI World Cup with Bangladesh.</p>



<p>The next ICC cycle of tournaments will run from the year 2024 to 2031.</p>

<p>The ICC flagship tournament will make a comeback to Pakistan after the 1996 World Cup. Pakistan was not granted any showpiece event by ICC after the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore.?</p>

<p>After a decade and a half of reluctance from the players to visit Pakistan, the country eventually revived and conducted a few bilateral series on their home soil marking a return of cricket in Pakistan. However, that happiness didn?t last long especially after the fresh pull out of New Zealand and England from their tours to Pakistan, again citing the concerns of security of players.</p>

<p>"In all probabilities, they (Pakistan) might have to host in the UAE,"&nbsp; a source said.</p>



<p>The 2024 T20 World Cup is given to West Indies and USA jointly. This will be the first time when a country from North America will host a global cricketing event.</p>



<p>Namibia alongside South Africa and Zimbabwe will host the Men?s 2027 ODI World Cup. While Australia and New Zealand will co-host the 2028 T20 World Cup.</p>



<p>The 2030 T20 World Cup?s hosting rights will be shared by England, Scotland and Ireland. To end the cycle, India and Bangladesh will come together to host the 2031 ODI World Cup.</p>

<p>Pakistan national men's side, as the host nation, has qualified for the Champions Trophy 2025 along with Team India, so far. India got a seat in the Champions Trophy 2025 after qualifying for the World Cup 2023 semi-final on November 2nd.</p>

While it is too early to comment on the status of next year's Champions Trophy, BCCI's unwavering stance of not visiting Pakistan may hurt their aspirations to stage the mega ICC event on their soil.</p>



<p>As per the reports, the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy 2025 is going to be on the cards until BCCI confirms its tour to Pakistan. </p>



<p>Notably, BCCI's unmoved approach to not visit Pakistan in 2023 pushed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to host the Asia Cup 2023 in the hybrid model. While some matches of the event were held in Pakistan, which was the official host of the event, the remaining, including India's matches, were staged in Sri Lanka.</p>



<p>A similar case is expected to arise next year as Pakistan gears up to host the Champions Trophy 2025. UAE is being kept as a backup option to host the ICC event in a hybrid model.</p>

<p>The reports of the Champions Trophy 2025 emerged as the ICC's board meeting is underway in Dubai. While the meeting has nothing to do with the Champions Trophy 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, is looking to have some discussions with the BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, and the ICC officials on the sidelines of the meeting.</p>



<p>If the reports are to be believed, the PCB chair wants to seek some assurance either from the BCCI or the ICC big-wigs as they prepare to host the Champions Trophy 2025.</p>



<p>"Every member can raise concerns for discussion at Board meetings and then it would go to a vote. But if the government (of a member nation) expressly say that they can't play there, ICC would need to look for an alternative," a veteran administrator, who has attended multiple board meetings, told PTI on conditions of anonymity.</p>



<p>"....because ICC Board's position remains that it doesn't expect its members to go against any policy/instructions issued by its own government," he said.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>BCCI might take softer stance for Champions Trophy 2025</strong></h2>

<p>It's worth noting that the Pakistani government had allowed its players to visit India in 2023 for the ODI World Cup. Despite Pakistan's statements of not travelling to India ahead of the event, they decided to give clearance to their players.</p>



<p>Moreover, unlike the Asia Cup 2023, which is a continental tournament, the Champions Trophy 2025 is a global event, which might prompt the BCCI or the Indian government to take a softer stance.</p>



<p>"The BCCI would obviously be compelled to look at it from the point of view that the Pakistan government allowed its team to play in the World Cup in India last year.</p>



<p>"So, this being a global event and not a continental one like the Asia Cup, the Indian government might take a softer stance. BCCI president Roger Binny and VP Rajiv Shukla had travelled to Pakistan during the Asia Cup," hoped the ICC board member.</p>



<p>However, the ultimate decision to send Indian players to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 remains with the Indian government. It remains to be seen what's in the store as far as India's visit to Pakistan is concerned in 2025.</p>

<p><strong>Champions Trophy 2025: </strong>While India's travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 remains an uncertainty, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has earmarked Lahore's Gadaffi Stadium to host Team India's matches in the tournament, which is slated to be hosted by Pakistan next year. </p>



<p>Notably, Champions Trophy 2025, an eight-team ICC event, is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February-March 2025. The top three venues to host the tournament in Pakistan are Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi.</p>



<p>The details of the exact schedule are yet to be revealed, but it has been learnt that all the league stage matches for Team India, including the high-octane India vs Pakistan, will be staged in Lahore only.</p>



<p>The PCB officials zeroed in on the decision following a lot of deliberations. The primary rationale behind earmarking Lahore to host India is that it's a border city with Wagah Border in the vicinity. The Indian fans can cross the Wagah Border easily if they wish to watch the matches.</p>



<p>However, there is a huge ambiguity around India's travel to Pakistan, which is a massive concern for Pakistan and the ICC. With the given circumstances and tensions between the two countries, the Men in Blue are unlikely to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025.</p>



<p>Moreover, a former ICC administrator had earlier conceded that it has absolutely no right to intervene in matters which are as serious as India vs Pakistan. </p>



<p>"ICC Board's position remains that it doesn't expect its members to go against any policy/instructions issued by its own government," said a veteran ICC official.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Team India remains uncertain for Champions Trophy 2025</strong></h2>

<p>Notably, India has not visited Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup for obvious reasons. Earlier it was security concerns, now the political tensions between the two countries have become a huge reason for India not travelling to Pakistan for any form of engagement.</p>



<p>It's interesting to note that Pakistan was also the host of Asia Cup 2023, however, the tournament eventually shaped into a hybrid model, where Team India's matches were held in Sri Lanka, and a few games were held in Pakistan. </p>



<p>A similar pattern is expected to be followed if Team India reserves its decision not to travel to Pakistan whatsoever. In such a scenario, the hybrid model would be the most viable option for the Champions Trophy 2025.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the PCB has already submitted the blueprint for the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_ICC_Champions_Trophy">Champions Trophy 2025</a> to the International Cricket Council (ICC). All the details, including venues and dates, are being finalised.</p>

<p>ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be played between 19 February to 9 March 2025. Initially cancelled after the 2017 edition, the ICC Champions Trophy is set to return in 2025. The ICC decided to revive the tournament to provide more international competitions in the ODI format. The 2025 edition will be held in Pakistan, marking the country's first major international tournament since co-hosting the 1996 Cricket World Cup.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="host-selection">Host Selection</h3>



<p>Pakistan was confirmed as the host on 16 November 2021 during the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. This will be a significant event for Pakistan, showcasing its ability to host international cricket after the disruption caused by the 2009 terrorist attacks on the Sri Lanka national cricket team.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="qualification">Qualification</h3>



<p>Eight teams will participate, including Pakistan as the host and the top seven teams from the 2023 Cricket World Cup group stage. Notably, Sri Lanka failed to qualify, while Afghanistan will make its first appearance in the tournament.</p>

<p><strong>IND vs SL</strong>: The Champions trophy is back and since 2018, this will be played again in 2024 for the first time. With speculations over India?s participation, new coach Gambhir would look to be ready with his side, in case they proceed to play their first ICC tournament under him in Pakistan. <br><br>Though BCCI secretary, Jay Shah and T20 World Cup winning skipper have often indicated India?s positive participation in the games. Jay Shah proclaimed that India will be led by Rohit in the upcoming <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICC_Champions_Trophy">Champions Trophy</a> as well. <br><br>As of now, Gambhir is assigned his first major tour to Sri Lanka with the men in blue and this will be his only ODI series in the sub-continent, as later in February next year India will be touring England for the same. So Gambhir might look to reinforce his squad to get over the flaws that led to India?s loss in the finals of the World Cup in 2023, despite their dream 10-match unbeaten run. </p>

<p>Gill has often been criticised for his lack of intent and lack of the spirit of the game, as he is often seen playing some of his own game irrespective of what the team needs from him. Now with Gambhir having several options in young Yashasvi Jaiswal and potent successor of the veterans Ruturaj Gaikwad, Gill?s position might look threatened. </p>

Gautam Gambhir who is well aware of his calibre might be baking him to make a comeback for India. </p>

<p>Rishabh Pant was seen playing for the Men in Blue at no.4, while his absence was taken over by former Capitals teammate, Shreyas Iyer. With Pant?s return and KL Rahul?s unstoppable form at no.5 for India, this will be a tough choice for Gambhir. <br><br>Rahul has improved his skills as a wicket-keeper; hence, Pant cannot exceed him in anything. Still, Pant might look to feature for India, even if it means alternate games for Iyer and Pant if speculations hold about Rahul being India?s stand-in skipper. </p>
