Gaikwad can be India?s best solution to the middle-order issues, as the batter often enjoys great flexibility with his batting role. The batter can handle spin really well and is a great striker once he sets his eyes on the ball. This makes him one of the finest choices who must be picked for the Indian side in ODIs.

The youngster has been India?s star in the shortest format of the game alongside his stunning performance in the longest format of the game as well. Jaiswal is India?s best batter in the two formats and is the only batsman to feature among the top 10 in both lists. Despite his brilliance, it seems surprising how has he been not picked for the ODIs, even after Gill has had the most unconvincing form since the Cricket World Cup 2023 in the format. However, now the left-handed batter should be picked to open alongside skipper Rohit Sharma, as the two batters attacking mindset will set a different tempo for India in the powerplay overs.

 Pandya not playing the 50-over format series has been a big void for the Indian team, as Shivam Dube has been miserable in the format. This is proclaimed that Dube for sure is not ideal to be picked in place of the veteran Indian all-rounder. Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian Cricket Team performed in an exceptional manner in the home five match T20 International series versus England and secured a convincing 4-1 series victory. Opening batter Abhishek Sharma and leg spinner Varun Chakaravarthy ended the series as the heroes, turning out to be the best performers but star wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson didn't have a good series and a big weakness of hit got exposed. 
The bowlers of England recognized this mistake of the 30-year-old on time and they took full advantage of it in the entire series. This weakness of Sanju Samson is the short pitched deliveries. Sanju Samson's overall performance in the recently concluded five-match T20 International series was very poor. In all five games, he managed to score just 51 runs and his best score was 26 runs. His average was also very poor standing at 10.20. The 30-year-old played a total of 43 balls in the entire series, of which 29 were short pitched balls. 
From the above stats, it can be understood that the English fast bowlers had prepared in a perfect manner versus the wicketkeeper batter. He managed to slam just three maximums and five fours at a strike rate of 118.60 and these stats just show how dominant England's pace bowling unit was versus Samson. 
Currently, the 30-year-old is out with an index finger fracture and he is expected to return directly in the IPL. Sanju will have to find a way to overcome his short ball weakness quickly otherwise the Indian Team management might just run out of patience with him.

Team India, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, started off the three-match ODI series versus England in a great way, overcoming the visitors in the opening match by a margin of 4 wickets. The heroes of the victory were Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill. Iyer played an explosive knock of 59 runs in 36 deliveries while Gill played a magnificent inning of 87 runs in 96 deliveries.
While the latter played a good knock, he missed out on his century by 13 funs and he surely felt the pain of missing out on a well-deserved ton. The 25-year-old got out on the short-pitched delivery of Saqib Mahmood, but it won't be incorrect to say that the pressure on him was created by Hardik Pandya. 
Junior Pandya hit a good six and while it may be a good thing for the team, it turned to be bittersweet for the newly appointed ODI vice-captain Gill as it spoiled his route of bringing up a deserving 7th One-Day International century. 
<h2>How did Hardik spoil the game? </h2>
Young Shubman Gill had settled down at the crease in a perfect manner in Nagpur and while wickets were constantly falling from one end, he maintained his composure and batted in a clean and amazing way. He stitched good partnerships with Axar Patel &amp; Shreyas Iyer and also completed his half-century. 
Slowly and steadily, he came close to completing his hundred. In the 36th over of the match, the 25-year-old was 17 runs away from his hundred and the Men in Blue needed 24 runs to secure the victory. But in that very over, KL Rahul got dismissed and Hardik Pandya walked out to bat at the crease. 
He played the first delivery as a dot ball but hit the very next ball for a maximum. With this six, the Indians needed 18 runs to secure the win and Shubman needed 17 runs to complete his hundred. 
<h2>Gill came under pressure</h2>
If Hardik had taken a single instead of hitting the ball for a six, the Shubman could have brought up his 7th ODI hundred slowly &amp; steadily without feeling the pressure. But, Junior Pandya's six created pressure on the youngster. 
The 25-year-old came on strike in the 37th over and reached the score of 87 runs by hitting a boundary. In a hurry to bring up his ton, he tried to hit the second ball of the over of pacer Saqib Mahmood for a maximum with the help of a pull shot, but he got caught by the fielder on the boundary. 
Following the dismissal of the 25-year-old, Pandya patted his bat and acknowledged his innings but the disappointment on Gill's face was clearly visible. He played a knock of 87 runs in the match with the help of 14 fours. 
<h2>Tilak Varma's chance of getting a fifty has been spoilt before by Hardik</h2>
This is not the first time that Hardik Pandya's six has kept a player away from achieving a milestone. Earlier this happened with Tilak Verma when Hardik had to face a lot of trolling. In 2023, Tilak Verma missed his fifty by just 1 run as Hardik ended the game by hitting a six. That day too, if Hardik wanted, he could have let the youngster bring up his fifty by taking a single but instead, he hit the ball for a six.

In what promises to be an entertaining and fabulous encounter, Rohit Sharma-led Team India will be seen clashing against Jos Buttler's England in the second One-Day International match of the three-match ODI Series at the Barabati Cricket Stadium of Cuttack. This exciting contest will commence from 1:30 PM IST (Indian Standard Time) onwards in the afternoon. 
In the first match of the series, Team India defeated the Englishmen by a margin of four wickets and this win allowed them to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Rohit Sharma is handling the leadership duties of the Men in Blue in the ODI Series whereas Jos Buttler is the commander of the Three Lions.

Skipper Buttler played an amazing knock of 52 runs and Jacob Bethell supported him in a good manner as he went to score a half century as well. But in the end, their efforts went in vain as England failed to cross the 250 run mark. 
The Rohit Sharma-led Outfit had to score 249 runs in 50 overs to secure a win in this game and they did just that as they chased down the target with ease in 38.4 overs thanks to the brilliant batting performance of the trio of Shubman Gill (87 runs in 96 balls), Shreyas Iyer (59 runs in 36 balls) and Axar Patel (52 runs in 47 balls). 
Star Indian batter Virat Kohli didn't get the chance to take part in the opening match of the series due to a swollen knee problem. But, his return to the side in the 2nd ODI is pretty much confirmed. The Indian team management would want him to get some runs under his belt as they would want Kohli to be at his best in the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy.

Shubman Gill: The Prince of Indian Cricket, Shubman Gill performed in an exceptional manner in the opening match of the series, playing a good inning of 87 runs in 96 balls and he was also awarded the Man-of-the-match award for this good performance. He is in good form and he can definitely prove to be a threat for the English bowlers. 
The 25-year-old has scored 315 runs in the last six matches at an impressive strike rate of 176.96 and an average of 35. Also he's on the verge of breaking a massive ODI record of Hashim Amla and he will surely be one player to watch out for. 
Rohit Sharma: India's skipper Rohit Sharma has been struggling to find form with the bat as his batting woes have been going on since the Test-Series versus New Zealand. He hasn't played a single good knock in any format since November of last year and he needs to find his form quickly as Team India need him to be at his best ahead of the all-important Champions Trophy 2025.
He has scored 230 runs in the last 9 matches with a strike rate of 169.11. Rohit Sharma's explosive start helps the team to score big and one single good inning will help him to rediscover his lost mojo. 
Jos Buttler: Jos Buttler, the white-ball captain of England didn't have a good T20i series with the bat versus India but he started off the ODI series on a positive note, scoring a good half century in Nagpur. He will play a key role in the middle order of the Three Lions and he will be hoping to fire with the bat yet again in the Cuttack ODI. 
He has scored 214 runs in 8 matches at an average of 42.8 and a strike rate of 158.51. Jos Buttler's combination of calm and aggressive batting provides stability to England's middle order and if he manages to find some consistency with the bat, then India could be in big trouble. 
Phil Salt: Explosive wicketkeeper batsman Phil Salt is looking in his explosive form with the bat at present. He didn't perform well with the bat in the first four T20i matches versus India but in the Wankhede T20i game, he scored a brilliant fifty. He has successfully transferred that momentum into the 50 over format as well as in the Nagpur ODI, he helped his team get off to a fiery start, playing a good inning of 42 runs but a miscommunication with his partner Duckett meant he got run out. 
The 28-year-old is an intelligent batter and he knows how to dominate the bowlers from the word go. He has managed to score 272 runs in his last 8 ODI outings with an average of 34 and a strike rate of 99.63 with his aggressive style. Philip Salt can do something different with his bat even in today's match.
<h2>Head-2-Head record between Team India &amp; England in One Day Cricket</h2>
Fierce-Rivals India and England have faced each other in a total of 108 One Day International matches and the Indians have the upper hand as they have finished on a victorious note on 59 occasions while the Englishmen have secured victories in 44 games. The second match of the three-match ODI series between India and England was played on 9 February (Sunday) at Barabaati Stadium of Cuttack and in this game, the Indian Team secured an easy win by a margin of four wickets and took an unassailable lead of 2-0. Skipper Rohit Sharma played a fiery knock of 119 runs in 90 deliveries, which consisted of 12 fours and seven sixes. 
<h2>KL Rahul's below par performance with the bat continues</h2>
The return of Rohit Sharma to his explosive form was a good news for the Indian fans but wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul delivered yet another disappointing performance with the bat in this match as well. He returned to dugout after scoring just 10 runs and even in the previous match of the series, the 31-year-old managed to score just two runs. 
In both games, the former LSG skipper had a chance to apply the finishing touches but, he returned to the pavilion and failed to help the Men in Blue get over the line. 
Even in last year's Sri Lanka tour, Rahul wasn't able to do anything special with the bat, managing to score just 31 runs in two innings. Rishabh Pant replaced him in the side in the 3rd ODI. If we take a close look at his stats, then we get to know that Rahul has amassed just 43 runs in the last four One-Day International games at a miserable average of 10.75, which goes on to reflect his struggles in the format. 
Rahul's glove work was also poor in the Cuttack ODI as his mistake led to Joe Root getting a lifeline. On his advice, skipper Rohit Sharma decided not to take the DRS review versus Root but the replays later showed that the ball was hitting the stumps.
After watching the replays, skipper Rohit regretted the decision of not taking the DRS and was very pissed off with KL Rahul. A wicketkeeper's advice is very important in taking a call of DRS reviews for LBW. 
<h2>Will Pant get a chance to play in the 3rd ODI? </h2>
The question which arises here is, will the Indian team management carry on with KL Rahul as the main wicketkeeper in the 3rd &amp; Final ODI of the series in Ahmedabad? Wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant is a part of the squad as well and the 27-year-old is a better wicketkeeper than KL Rahul and also has a lot of experience of keeping the wickets on bouncy &amp; spinning tracks. 
The newly appointed LSG skipper has participated in 31 One-Day International matches for the Men in Blue, where he has managed to score 871 runs at a decent average of 33.50. He has also slammed five fifties and a century in the format. 
KL Rahul, on the other hand, has amassed 2,863 runs in 79 ODI games at an average of 47.71 with the help of seven hundreds and 18 fifties. While the statistics of the latter are better than the former, constant failures of the latter with the bat is increasing the tension of the Indian team management ahead of Champions Trophy 2025.The team management would definitely want to give an attacking batsman like Pant a chance to prove himself before the commencement of the Champions Trophy.
