INDvsWI T20I series likely to be played with 75 per cent spectators in Eden Gardens: The upcoming three matches Twenty20 International series between India and West Indies is likely to witness the involvement of the fans. The state government on Monday cleared the Eden Gardens, Kolkata to accommodate 75 per cent of fans for the matches.



The West Indies government on 31st January issued an official notification to allow 75 per cent of fans for all the indoor and outdoor sports activities taking place in the state.



The Kieron Pollard-led West Indies will visit India for three matches ODI series followed by as many matches T20I series, beginning February 16. All three T20I matches will be played in iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata.



The historic ground has a total seating capacity of 68,000 fans. With a 75 per cent green signal, the total attendance is expected to be around 50,000 for the T20I matches.



"We are thankful to the honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, chief secretary and Government of West Bengal for announcing resumption of sporting activities as well as for allowing 75 percent of the capacity of spectators back to the stadium," CAB president Avishek Dalmiya said in a statement.

The BCCI originally scheduled all the six limited-overs matches between India and West Indies to be held at six different venues across the country, however, in wake of the covid surge, the cricket board had to make tweaks to the plans.



With revised venues, all the ODI matches will be held in Ahmedabad?s Narendra Modi Stadium, beginning February 6 and all the T20I matches will be played at Eden Gardens.

According to the report of Cricbuzz, three cricketers along with four support staff and one standby player is infected with the dreaded virus on Wednesday.



The three playing members include Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Pacer Navdeep Saini, who is on standby, has also been tested covid positive in Ahmedabad ahead of the ODI series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), following the covid outbreak, roped in opener batsman Mayank Agarwal in the Indian ODI squad.

All the infected members have been shifted to a separate floor in the same hotel in which the Indian team is staying and are undergoing their mandatory isolation period.

"Every member was also asked to undergo an RT-PCR test at home before embarking on their journey to Ahmedabad and the travel was undertaken only after testing negative," the BCCI clarified.



The BCCI official informed that the cricket board is flexible with the scheduling of the series with West Indies. The series can be pushed further by a couple of days if more covid positive cases come up, but, if no more covid cases emerge, the tour will go as per the original schedule.



West Indies squad has also arrived at the Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday. The touring official confirmed that the entire squad has tested negative before their departure and after landing in Ahmedabad.



"We were all negative before we left Barbados. And all negative on our arrival tests at the airport yesterday in Ahmedabad. We are in room isolation on a separate floor to the Indian team as per the protocols," the top-ranked official told Cricbuzz.

?Let me put this on record. We are not allowing spectators at the Eden Gardens for the three T20 Internationals. There will not be any tickets for general public. The only people allowed are CAB officials and representatives of the various units.? Ganguly was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Rohit Sharma, the full-time Indian limited-overs skipper, earlier in the day, confirmed that young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan will be given the opportunity to open the innings with him in the 1st ODI.



"Ishan Kishan is the only option we have and he will open with me," Rohit said in the pre-match press conference.



It must be noted that all the changes to the Indian squad are being made due to a bit of mix-up that happened following the covid outbreak in the Indian camp. Seven members of the Indian contingent were infected with covid, of which three are playing members of the squad.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer along with three support staff and one member from reserves (Navdeep Saini) were tested covid positive on Wednesday. All the aforementioned are currently undergoing their isolation in Ahmedabad under the cautious eye of the BCCI medical team.



Meanwhile, BCCI also added Mayank Agarwal for the ODI series, however, he is still in a quarantine period owing to which he won?t open the innings.



?Mayank was added to the squad and he is still in isolation. He came (joined) late and we have some rules in place. If someone is travelling, we have to put them in (mandatory 3-day) quarantine. He has still not finished his quarantine.?&nbsp;



Team India is expected to make some changes to the squad in order to test a few players. Deepak Hooda might get the opportunity in the middle order to show his skills. The combination of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal is probable to be brought back to the ODI setup once again.



Shahrukh Khan, who has earned respect as a genuine finisher, can get some match time in the upcoming ODI series against West Indies.?

Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer cleared to train, tested covid negative: Team India?s senior opener batsman Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer have been tested covid negative in recently conducted tests and are subsequently cleared to resume training.



The sources in the know of development confirmed the news. Iyer and Dhawan will resume their training with their teammates on Wednesday while young opener batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad is still in isolation.



"Yes, Shikhar and Shreyas have tested negative for Covid-19 and they have been cleared to train. Ruturaj Gaikwad is still in isolation," the source pointed out.



The entire Indian contingent in Ahmedabad will undergo a training session on Wednesday. Both Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer will join the Indian squad for their lite training.



Both the batsman are currently monitored by BCCI?s medical team. They are highly unlikely to be available for the second ODI match on Wednesday against West Indies.



Navdeep Saini, who was on the standby players list for the ODI series, had also contracted Covid, however, the pacer recently began his training in the nets.

India will face West Indies in the second ODI match in Ahmedabad?s Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday after their commanding win in the series opener.



Rohit Sharma led team India won the first ODI by six wickets, which was India?s historic win in its 1000th ODI match. On top of that, Sharma kickstarted his full-time captaincy career with a win.



He regulated his resources pretty well and took clever decisions to clear up the West Indies batters as early as possible. Even the DRS calls went India?s way in the historic match.



With India going 1-0 up in the three matches ODI series, the pressure will be on the visitors to come up and challenge the Indians in their own backyard. West Indies felt a little discomfiting facing the Indian spinners.?
