IPL 2021 Auction: The uncapped Karnataka all-rounder, Krishnappa Gowtham has made a record as he gets picked by Chennai Super Kings for whopping INR 9.25 Crores at the ongoing IPL 2021 auctions. The all-rounder is the most expensive Indian uncapped players brought in any auction till now as reported by news agency ANI.



The right-handed batsman and off-spinner entered the fourteenth edition of Indian Premier League auction with a base price of INR 20 Lakhs. Gowtham came into limelight in 2018 after he continuously hit towering sixes and made runs for his side. He has 186 runs form 24 IPL games. His best performances came in 2018 where he smacked bowlers with a strike rate of 196.87 and amassed 126 runs.



In 2018 and 2019 cash-rich league, Gowtham gave his services to Rajasthan Royals while he was picked by Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL 2020 season. Now he will be playing along-side MS Dhoni in the coming edition of Indian Premier League.



The all-rounder has played 62 T20 games and scored 592 runs at a strike rate of 159.24.



Along with these good runs, Gowtham has also scalped 41 wickets in these games with an economy rate of 7.60 runs per over.



Krishnappa Gowtham will be a great addition to CSK?s arsenal as he can become a key player at times for the three-times champion. He will act as the fourth all-rounder option for CSK along with Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.



As of now, Jadeja is injured and no clarity is there in his fitness and form lately. Gowtham will play a major role for CSK and most of the games will be played at MA Chidambaram and the off-spinner will be important for that surface.&nbsp;

IPL 2021: Krishnappa Gowtham recalls the moment when he got picked in the IPL 2021 Auction.



IPL 2021: Karnataka all-rounder, Krishnappa Gowtham who is currently with the Indian national side as a net bowler, recalls the moment when he got picked in the IPL 2021 Auction by Chennai Super Kings. Gowtham surpassed Krunal Pandya record and fetched whopping INR 9.25 Crores from CSK as an uncapped Indian Player.



Krishnappa Gowtham put Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a bidding war which was joined by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) later on and beat the two franchises to acquire the player.



"It was nerve-wracking, I was very anxious, watching on TV," Gowtham, who is currently with the Indian Test team in Ahmedabad as a net bowler for the series against England, told ESPNcricinfo.



"We'd just landed in Ahmedabad and I'd just switched on the TV and my name came up. Emotions were changing every minute. Then, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya knocked on my door and gave me a big hug and they asked for a big treat."



Gowtham put his name on the auction table with the base price of INR 20 Lakhs and rose up to INR 9.25 Crores. He came into the limelight in 2018 where he smashed towering sixes at the death.



Gowtham was part of the inaugural champions for two years before he was picked by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2020.&nbsp;



Both parents and wife of all-rounder were in tears when they came to know about the news.



The 32 years old cricketer is a huge fan of MS Dhoni and will play under him in the upcoming IPL. The off-spinner will be crucial for MS Dhoni as the surface of MA Chidambaram suits spinners.



Although it is still doubtful that the venues will be changed for the coming IPL or it will go in a regular manner.

SLvsIND: Team India has been hit by another setback as two spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Krishnappa Gowtham have also returned covid positive after the completion of the Sri Lanka tour. The duo will have to stay back in Sri Lanka until they recover completely.



The reports on Friday confirmed the development as all the other Indian players touring Sri Lanka returned home after the end of the tour. The Indian contingent has landed back on home soil this evening.



It is noteworthy that, earlier, all-rounder Krunal Pandya was tested covid positive and sent into isolation. As per the protocols, eight of Krunal?s close contacts were also forced to quarantine.&nbsp;



All the three covid positive returned players stayed back in Sri Lanka. According to the health protocols, all the three aforementioned cricketers will only get to travel back home after they come up with two consecutive negative covid reports in the RT-PCR test.

?Yuzi and Gowtham have tested positive as the team was supposed to return by a charter flight to Bengaluru sans Krunal Pandya. But now as per rules, Gowtham and Yuzi will also have to be in seven-day isolation in Sri Lanka. The contingent has reached Bengaluru," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.



India got hammered in the T20I series by 2-1 as Sri Lanka registered their first T20I series win since 2019. Team India were reduced to mere few young cricketers after the covid positive report of Krunal Pandya.



India clinched the ODI series by 2-1 prior to the loss of the T20I series.
