Bangladesh came to bat but failed to have a good start, but Najmul Hossain Shanto batted fantastically and scored 89 runs in 122 balls. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan didn?t perform well with the bat and got only two wickets while bowling.&nbsp;



The Sri Lankan Batters and Bowlers gave their best performance to win the match. Sri Lanka?s victory over Bangladesh made their way more clear for the Super 4 round. Matheesha Pathirana, also known as Baby Malinga, took four wickets in 7.4 overs.



The Player of the Match was Matheesha Pathirana, who showed good intent and played good cricket for his team on a big stage in a big tournament.

Bangladesh won the toss and came to bat first. Both the openers got out in the powerplay by scoring single-digit runs, whereas Skipper Shakib also got out by scoring only five runs. Najmul Hossain Shanto played a crucial knock of 89 runs and stood alone for his team, whereas others lost their wickets.&nbsp;



In the end, Bangladesh could have ended with 164 runs on the scoreboard in 42.4 overs. From the Sri Lanka Bowling side, Matheesha Pathirana took four wickets, and Mahesh Theekshana took two wickets.



In the Second Inning, Sri Lanka batters came to chase the target, but they lost their three wickets in the powerplay. After that, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka made a crucial partnership and led their team in a good position.



Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 54 runs in 77 balls with seven fours whereas Charith Asalanka scored 62 runs in 92 balls. They led their team to victory, and now, Sri Lanka occupies the top position in Group B.



From the Bangladesh Bowling side, Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets whereas Shoriful Islam, Mehdi Hasan and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket each.

During the third ODI match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, while bowling in the first inning, <a href="https://www.cricbuzz.com/profiles/9863/mustafizur-rahman">Mushtafizur Rahman</a> leaves the ground on a stretcher due to severe cramps. This incident took in the 48th over of the first inning, when Mushtafizur Rahman came to bowl his last over of the match, he had discomfort in his left hand and just after completing the over, he fell onto the ground.

According to a news report of RevSportz, the Chennai-based team are set to retain their former skipper MS Dhoni, but, the 43-year-old will not be their first retention pick. He will get retained at a lower price.



A group of core-players, which consists of the likes of Matheesha Pathirana and pace-bowling all-rounder Shivam Dube as well as CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and experienced spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, will be retained at a higher price than MSD.



With the Board of Control for Cricket in India yet to finalise the confirmed retention-policy for the Mega-Auction of IPL 2025, Chennai are waiting patiently to see how many players can get retained by each franchise.



While MSD is reportedly a crucial part of the franchise?s plans for the next edition of the cash-rich tournament, it remains to be seen what kind of a role the veteran will play for them.



The RevSportz news report suggests that by retaining Dhoni at a lower retention-price, the 43-year-old will not take-up a massive portion of Chennai's auction-purse.



If the BCCI lets the old-retention rule of letting players that have retired from International-Cricket for more than five-years be retained as Uncapped-players make a comeback, then Chennai and MSD will end up benefiting from that rule.



The former CSK captain has been batting in the lower-order of the batting lineup, mainly at number seven and number eight, but he has delivered some really impactful knocks with the bat. However, his ability of running between-the-wickets has decreased a lot in the last few years.

Ravindra Jadeja, despite being 36-years-old, remains an important player for the Chennai-based team, having previously led the team in 2022.

Matheesha Pathirana, a key bowler for five times IPL winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Sri Lankan Cricket team, has been struggling to perform well in recent times and he has given away a lot runs off his bowling. 
Currently representing the team of Joburg Super Kings (JSK) in the SA 20, he recently bowled three overs versus the Durban Super Giants (DSG) and in those three overs, the Pacer gave away 34 runs at economy 11.33 ,including seven wide balls. Though he picked up a wicket, he still didn't bowl according to his standards and proved to be really expensive. 
The 22-year-old has taken part in two SA 20 encounters so far and in those two games, he has picked up just a single wicket and has given away runs at an astonishingly high economy rate of 10.71.
Not only this, in the recently concluded three-match T20 International series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, Pathirana managed to dismiss just two batters and gave away runs at an average of 12 runs per over. 
<h2>What's the reason behind his poor form with the ball?</h2>
The Young seamer's boiling action is similar to the legendary Lasith Malinga. While releasing the ball, his hand action is slightly lower than that of Malinga. In this case, due to the slingy action, the youngester had developed a muscle strain in his bowling hand last year and once he recovered from this issue, he changed his bowling action slightly. 
The change which he has made is in the throwing position which is now higher than Malinga's throwing position. This slight change is causing issues for him and batsman are taking full advantage of this.
Due to this change in his bowling action, the 22-year-old is constantly changing his line and length. Since the threat of an injury looks at any time if he bowls using his old action, he has no other choice but to bowl in a different way. Therefore, it's believed that the Sri Lankan seamer won't be able to create any kind of impact with the ball in the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
<h2>Do CSK have any potential replacements for Pathirana? </h2>
Nathan Ellis is the replacement for Pathirana. This Australian pacer has been in tremendous bowling form off late and inn particular, his ability to bowl slow balls in an accurrate way is troubling the Big Bash batters. Therefore, it is believed that if Pathirana is injured at the beginning of the 18th season, Ellis will play as a replacement.
