On day 2 of a one-off test match between England and Ireland, Ollie Pope played a stunning innings of 205 runs in just 208 balls. After playing a fantastic inning, Ollie Pope created history by knocking a double century in just 207 balls. Ollie Pope knocked the fastest double century for England in Test Cricket.

Ollie Pope helped the England team to reach the score of 500 runs in the first inning of a test match against the weak side of Ireland. The England team decided to declare after the fall of Ollie Pope's wicket as he was playing aggressively and then Ben Stokes declared the inning at 524 runs with the loss of four wickets in 82 overs.



Pope knocked out his first double-hundred in test cricket for England. In his 205 runs innings, he knocked 22 fours and three sixes with an impressive strike rate of 98.56. 



Ben Duckett played a brilliant innings of 181 runs in just 178 balls and made a crucial partnership of 252 runs with Ollie Pope to lead the Test by 352 runs in the first inning of the match. Pope knocked the fourth century in his test career and completed his 2000 runs in test cricket for England in just 36 test matches. 



After playing a magnificent inning, Pope broke multiple records, including the fastest double hundred for England and became the first English player who knocked double centuries in two seasons of a test match.

The dismissal brought a sigh of relief to the Australian side, who desperately wanted a breakthrough on day four of the 1st test. England had begun their day four with some quick runs, thanks to Joe Root's onslaught.



However, Aussie skipper Pat Cummins came to rescue his side with an unplayable yorker at around 140kmph. Ollie Pope, at a score of 14 runs off 16 deliveries, faced an exceptional inswinging yorker from Cummins, which sent his off-stump for a short walk. The right-handed batter couldn't bring his bat down on time as the opposition captain breached his defence and got the breakthrough.



The incident happened in the 17th over of the English innings when Cummins came to deliver this third over of the spell. After conceding just a single run in the first three deliveries of the 17th over, Cummins was taken to cleaners for a boundary by Ollie Pope in the fourth delivery. However, the pacer retaliated remarkably with a dot and a wicket in the next two balls to have the last laugh.

Meanwhile, Ollie Pope's wicket barely concerned Joe Root, who looked to take on the Aussies. Root scored quickfire 46 runs in just 55 deliveries with the help of five fours and a maximum. Interestingly, Root attempted a few ambitious scoop shots as well, a couple of which went to the boundary.



Although Joe Root continued his fiery attack on Australia, he was denied of his well-made half-century by Nathan Lyon. The batter danced down the track to attempt a big swipe, however, the ball turned inwards and Root was caught off-guard by Alex Carey who nicely inflicted a stumping.



As things stand on day four of the ENG vs AUS 1st test, England have managed to get a 261-run lead so far in the loss of eight wickets. Their current score reads 254/8 with Ollie Robinson and Stuart Broad in the middle. 



Joe Root and Harry Brook were dismissed four shy of their fifties while Ben Stokes fell seven short to reach the half-century landmark. The equal credit for Ollie Pope?s wicket goes to skipper Rohit Sharma. The Indian skipper took a blinder in the slips. During the 4th ball of the 15th over, Ravindra Jadeja bowled a tossed-up delivery on his off stump.&nbsp;



Ollie Pope tried to push forward with hard hands and didn?t cover for the angle and got a thick edge. The ball went low and in front of Rohit Sharma at slip. The&nbsp; Indian captain dived forward and got his fingers under it to take a clean catch.&nbsp;

England's First Inning:



England batted first and played decent cricket in the first inning therefore they were able to score 246 runs on the scoreboard, Skipper Ben Stokes played a crucial knock of 70 runs in 88 balls. Indian Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each in the first inning.



India's First Inning:



India had a good start in their first inning which helped the team to have 436 runs on the scoreboard, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja played responsibly and scored 80, 86 and 87 runs, respectively. On Tuesday, scans suggested that Stokes has a torn hamstring in his left leg, as a result of which the English skipper is out of the team for the rest of the summer, eyeing a probable return in the Pakistan tour.

Wicketkeeper Batsman Jamie Smith continued to have an impressive start to his Test career as he pushed Ollie Pope-led England into a first-inning lead of 23 runs against Sri Lanka in the first test match of the three-match series by playing an impressive unbeaten inning of 72 runs as the Three Lions put up a score of 259-6 on the board before the proceedings of the second day ended earlier than expected due to constant rainfall interruptions at Old Trafford.

24-year-old Smith, playing in just his fourth test match after getting included in the squad for this summer?s matches, played brilliant knocks of 95 runs and 70 runs during the 3-0 series sweep over West Indies last month and now he brought up his third fifty in the ongoing first test against Sri Lanka.



His knock of 72 runs consisted of one six and five fours and he continues to remain unbeaten at the crease alongside Gus Atkinson (4*runs).



The visitors are still in the match though and after struggling at 6-3 in the initial phase of their inning, they managed to post a decent total of 236 runs on the scoreboard. The Sri Lankans fought back in a really good way with the ball as fast bowler Asitha Fernando was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers with figures of 3-68 next to his name.

The upcoming three-match Test series between England and Pakistan is facing uncertainty regarding the venues where the matches will be played due to the ongoing construction work going on in the National Cricket Stadium of Karachi, which thereby raises the chances of the series getting shifted to Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates (UAE).



The stadiums of Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi are undergoing renovation work for next year?s Champions Trophy which is going to take place in Pakistan and this development is creating difficulties for the PCB in organising bilateral-series matches in the country.

Nevertheless, the delays in the construction work is causing inconveniences in hosting the test-matches and if the construction-work is halted, then the preparations of next year?s Champions Trophy will get impacted. Plus, organising matches without letting fans enter the stadium is not going to be a feasible option for the PCB either.



The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the cricket governing body of the country, is considering the alternative venue options in Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates (UAE).



However, the Zayed Cricket Stadium of Abu Dhabi is the only realistic option for hosting games in the UAE as the matches of ICC?s upcoming Women?s T20 World Cup 2024 are going to be played in Sharjah (Sharjah Cricket Stadium) and Dubai (Dubai International Cricket Stadium).&nbsp;



With no official confirmation in regards to the venues, the PCB is anticipated to announce the final-stadium confirmations after holding a meeting with the ECB (England Cricket Board) in the next few days.



It's worth noting that the Shaheens lost the two-match Test series against Bangladesh recently and the upcoming one against the Three Lions is going to be a must win one for the Shan Masood-led team if they want to stay alive in the race of playing in the WTC 2023-25 final.

Cricket's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) recently revealed the updated ICC Men's Test player rankings on the 11th of September, 2024.&nbsp;



The updated rankings see England's hard hitting batter Harry Brook slip down by seven positions, while India's three batters have risen in the rankings by one-spot each.&nbsp;



Joe Root, the premier batter of the Three Lions, continues to reign supreme at the top of ICC?s Test batting rankings despite scoring just 13 and 12 runs in the third test match at the Oval against Sri Lanka, though his rating points have seen a decrease from 922 to 899, which provides an opportunity to New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson and Aussie batter Steve Smith to close down the gap between themselves and Root.



Similarly, another English batter, Harry Brook, has dropped in the batting rankings by seven spots to the 12th position after managing to score just 19 and three-runs in the third test against the Sri Lankans.



Ollie Pope?s inning of 154 runs has helped him make a jump of seven places to joint 27th spot along with Angelo Mathews while young sensation Jamie Smith moved by six places to the 30th rank after scoring a quick fifty in the second inning.

However, England batters were not the only ones who made gains in the rankings. Six batters of Sri-Lanka have made massive gains in ICC?s recently updated Test batting rankings thanks to their historic eight-wicket victory over England in the third &amp; final Test-Match at the Oval.



The Island Nation secured their first away test victory in more-than-a-decade in the third-test match against the Three Lions, with captain Dhananjaya-de-Silva, opener Pathum Nissanka and middle order batter Kamindu Mendis starring with the bat.



Skipper De Silva was the top scorer for his side having played a crucial knock of 69 runs in the first inning, which allowed him to achieve his Test career?s best ranking batting wise, as he jumped from 16th to the 13th rank.

Pathum Nissanka and Kamindu Mendis on the other hand, also achieved their Test career?s highest ranks, with the left handed batter rising by six spots to the 19th place thanks to his fifty against England while Nissanka?s fantastic knocks of 64 and 127* runs helped him to make a huge jump of 42 places to the 39th place.



Talking about the Indian players, despite not playing a test match since March of this year, the trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal have seen improvisations in their test rankings.



The Indian captain has moved to the fifth position, while his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal is now sitting at the sixth place of ICC?s Test batting-rankings. Kohli, on the other hand, has occupied the seventh position.

Pakistan vs England: The first day of the opening Test-Match between Pakistan and England came to an exciting end with the Shaheens posting a score of 328-4 on the board.



Thanks to skipper Shan Masood's century on the first day of play at the Multan Cricket Stadium, the Green Shirts rebounded excellently in the first Test against England on Monday.



Having won the toss and chosen to bat first, the national team was dealt an early setback when opener Saim Ayub (4) was caught behind off the bowling of Gus Atkinson.



However, captain Shan Masood and opening batter Abdullah Shafique stitched a partnership of 114 runs for the 2nd wicket to help their team reach a score of 122-1 at lunch.



The 1st day of the 1st test ended with Pakistan putting up a score of 328-4 on the board with the duo of Naseem Shah (0 runs in 3 deliveries) and Saud Shakeel (35* runs in 72 balls) unbeaten at the crease.



The ongoing three-match Test-Series between Pakistan and England is a part of ICC?s WTC (World Test Championship) 2023-2025 cycle.



Earlier in the game, Shan was adjudged LBW by the umpire off the bowling of debutant pacer Brydon Carse. However, the Pakistani skipper took a review immediately and his decision payed off as the verdict got overturned as replays showed that the ball had pitched outside the leg-stump.



Shan then ran two quick runs and brought up his half-century in 43 deliveries.



Opener Abdullah Shafique was given a lifeline when he was batting on 35 runs as he opted to take a risky-single and Ollie Pope, the stand-in skipper of England, missed the stumps by a very small margin with his direct throw.



Despite missing the run-out opportunity, Pope made up for it as he caught the catch of Shafique in the 60th over off Atkinson as the opener walked back to the pavilion after scoring 102 runs in 184 deliveries, which included 10 fours and two huge maximums.



Pakistan?s other opener Saim Ayub didn?t have a good outing with the bat as he made just four runs and got out early.



Moreover, the best-batter of the day, Shan Masood was dismissed by Jack Leach in the 63rd over, after scoring 151 runs in 177 deliveries, with the help of 13 fours and two maximums.



Babar Azam, batting at number four, came on the crease with the motive of scoring 50+ runs but ended up scoring just 30 runs in 71 deliveries as Chris Woakes got the better of him by catching him plumb in front of the stumps.



The duo of Jack Leach and Chris Woakes picked up a wicket each while fast-bowling All Rounder Gus Atkinson dismissed two batters.

Prithvi Shaw did not find any takers as the Mumbai batter went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. Prithvi, who had a base price of Rs 75 lakh in the auction, was released by Delhi Capitals but he did not attract any bids from the ten franchises.
Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has said that Prithvi Shaw is misunderstood in many ways but needed a 'jolt' in the form of the IPL 2025 Auction snub. Shaw has been part of the Delhi franchise since returning as the U-19 World Cup winning captain in 2018 and was bought for 1.2 Crores. Ahead of the 2022 auction, the Mumbai batter was retained by DC for Rs. 7.5 Crore but the past few seasons hasn't been great for the 25-year-old.
Speaking to Sports Today, Jindal said that Shaw is a great kid but needed a jolt to get up from his slumber. The DC co-owner feels that Shaw needs to work hard, get back the love of the game and get disciplined. Jindal ended by saying he hopes the Mumbai batter can return back to his best form
Delhi has backed Prithvi Shaw a lot. DC had hoped that he is a powerplay player and would hit 6 boundaries in one over. And he did that too. He hit Shivam Mavi for 6 fours in an over. He had a lot of potential and DC backed him to the hilt. We always thought that if Shaw manages to score, we will win. And we gave him a lot of chances," Kaif told on Jio Cinema.

Prithvi got a lot of chances and teams have now finally moved on, and it is a matter of embarrassment that he did not get a bid for Rs 75 lakh. Maybe now, he finally goes back to basics. Someone like Sarfaraz Khan got into the national team by scoring lots and lots of runs," he concluded.

Banton was out for nine around the halfway point of the innings, while Waseem was out for 38 shortly after. Kieron Pollard replaced skipper Nicholas Pooran, but the seasoned right-hander struggled to get going and was eventually sent out for five by Ali Khan. With just over 6 overs remaining, the score was at 102/4.
Following Dan Mousley's dismissal for six, Romario Shepherd joined his skipper for the innings' last stretch. Jason Holder made a solid 49, but Pooran, who was hitting it cleanly, was almost at his half-century before he fell.

IND vs ENG: Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his playing XI for the first T20I against England. The match between the two teams is all set to take place on Wednesday (22nd January) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
India and England will be locking horns with each other in the five-match T20I series. Both teams have a mixed combination of seniors and youngsters in the team, and with the way they have played of late, it's fair to say that it will be an exciting series to watch. 
Coming to the first T20I, Ravichandran Ashwin backed Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma to open the innings for the team. The duo has been doing a decent job together as an opener and would be hoping to carry on the same form in the upcoming first match. 
Sanju Samson was at his exceptional best in the T20Is last year as he slammed three tons. While on the other hand, Abhishek Sharma hasn't been able to maintain consistency. Hence the series will be extremely important for him with the bat. 
At No.3, Ravichandran Ashwin picked Tilak Varma. The left-hander oozed his class with the bat in the last series against South Africa. He batted at No.3 and slammed two back-to-back centuries. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav, as per Ashwin, will bat at No.4.
Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Axar Patel are the three all-rounders picked by Ravichandran Ashwin in his Indian XI for the first IND vs ENG T20I. They are expected to play a major role with the bat and ball. 
Rinku Singh also has been picked by Ravichandran Ashwin in his Indian XI for the first IND vs ENG team. He will be taking the role of finisher while there was no place for Ravi Bishnoi, who hard has put a foot wrong in his T20I career. Varun Chakravarthy will be there as per Ashwin. 
Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh are the two fast bowlers picked by Ravichandran Ashwin for the first IND vs ENG XI. Shami will be making his comeback to the team after a year, while Arshdeep will be keen to make an impact.

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali talked about the delay in the squad of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for the Pakistan team. He said that it might look like they are scared of announcing the team, but it seems that they don't know what to do. 
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is around the corner and all the teams have named their squad for the tournament except the hosts Pakistan. The Men in Green are yet to announce the team even though the deadline of 12th January has already been surpassed by a long margin. 
India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan have all revealed their squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This has made many speculate about why Pakistan isn't announcing their squad for the tournament, which is less than one month away. 
There have been several reports that Pakistan will be announcing their squad for the tournament soon. They are awaiting the fitness of a few players, and hence, they will soon be naming the team. Some reports also have revealed the players who will be playing, but an official announcement is yet to come.

"Pakistan kya darr gaya jo abhi tak team announce nahi ki? Nahi dara nahi hai. Samajh nahi aa rahi hai -- karein to kya karein? (Is Pakistan scared to announce their squad? No, it isn't, just unsure what to do and what not). The biggest issue is whether Saim Ayub can return fit or not. It's still not clear." 
It remains to be seen when will Pakistan announce the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament is all set to take place from 19th February, with the final all set to be played on 9th March.
