Pacer Shaheen Afridi will lead the T20I side for the first time after taking over from Babar Azam. This series will serve as the first series of Shaheen Shah as a full-time captain and also the preparation for the T20I World Cup 2024.



Young players Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub, Haseebullah Khan, and Sahibzada Farhan are also part of the 17-man roster. The team also has Azam Khan, a destructive batter, in addition to players like Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, and Fakhar Zaman.



Shadab Khan, the senior all-rounder who was the vice-captain of the T20I side in the Men's T20 World Cup last year, misses out due to injury.



"Shadab Khan?is a very important member of Pakistan T20 cricket. Unfortunately, he suffered an ankle injury (during the National T20) and requires 2 further weeks of rehab. After that, he'll be available to bowl," said Chief Selector Wahab Riaz

"Haseebullah played some impactful innings in the PSL in the middle-order and has performed a lot in white-ball cricket. He opens in domestic cricket but for team adjustment, we need to develop players for numbers 4-7," said Riaz.?



"Khushdil Shah, Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Shoaib Malik, Faheem Ashraf were given chances but they couldn't create that type of impact, so now we're in a building phase to see which players can fit into these positions," he added.

The five-match T20I series will be played from the 18th April across the two selected venues in Pakistan. Pakistan toured New Zealand a couple of months ago where they played a five-match T20I series. Both sides played with their respective full-strength teams where Shaheen Shah Afridi led Pakistan and Kane Williamson led New Zealand. The home side won the tournament by 4-1. Finn Allen and Babar Azam were two standout performers for their respective teams.



Babar Azam stepped out of Captaincy duties and Shaheen Afridi was handed over the role in the T20I format. Now, after a mediocre performance of the team under Shaheen's leadership, Babar Azam is reappointed as the skipper of Pakistan in white ball format.

Rawalpindi will host the next two matches as well on the 20th and 21st April and then teams will move to Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium. Teams will have a gap of 4 days between 3rd and 4th T20I and one day between 4th and 5th T20I. The final game will also be contested at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.



Pakistan are expected to enter the series with a full-strength team and full-scale T20 World Cup preparation mode while New Zealand will be missing many key players due to their IPL commitments. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday 8th April, announced the appointment of former Seamer Azhar Mahmood as the head coach of the Pakistan's National Cricket Team for the five match T20 International series against New Zealand. Along with Azhar, the other members of the support staff have been unveiled as well.&nbsp;



Azhar Mahmood is an experienced coach with both domestic and international coaching experience under his belt and he will be taking over the reins of the Pakistan national team for the New Zealand T20i series starting from 18th April. He previously served Pakistan Cricket as the bowling coach between 2016 to 2019. Currently, the 49 year old is the bowling coach of PSL 2024 winners, Islamabad United.&nbsp;



?Azhar Mahmood has played 164 international games for Pakistan and has picked 162 wickets and has scored 2,421 runs with the bat, ? The Pakistan Cricket Board said in their official statement.&nbsp;



Former fast bowler Wahab Riaz has been declared as the manager of the senior Pakistan team and Mohammad Yousuf will be playing the role of the batting coach. Saeed Ajmal will carry on with his spin bowling coach duties.&nbsp;



Since the appointment of the new selection committee of PCB, Pakistan has been on the lookout of a brand new coaching staff. According to some rumors, Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten were set to be appointed as the coaches of Pakistan, but no official has been made regarding this.

But the vice captain of the Men in Green hasn't been announced yet and the PCB is expected to announce the Vice Captain of the Shaheens in the next few days.&nbsp;



According to some news reports of the local Pakistani media, spin bowling All - Rounder Shadab Khan and Wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan are the front runners in the race to become the white ball Vice Captain of the Shaheens.



The decision of who will handle the vice captaincy duties ahead of the home five match T20 International series against New Zealand is expected to be announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board post the conclusion of the Ramadan Eid holidays.



The Men in Green will be playing five T20 International games against New Zealand from 18th April onwards. The first three T20 International matches will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium of Rawalpindi on 18th, 20th and 21st April. The action will then move to Lahore?s Gaddafi Stadium for the final two games of the series.



Fast Bowler Mohammad Amir has made his much awaited return to the National squad of Pakistan after a gap of four years. He last played for the Shaheens way back in August 2020.&nbsp;

The first T20I played here was Pakistan vs Zimbabwe in 2020 and the latest is New Zealand vs Pakistan in 2023. Over the course of time, it is pretty evident that the pitches here in Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium become slower with each match. 



The well-balanced surface at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is well-known for its ability to accommodate both batsmen and spin bowlers throughout a match. Even if the pitch tends to slow down as the game progresses, it is still easy to bat for the wickets.



The new ball helps batters score quickly at the beginning of the game, especially in the powerplay overs. But as the game goes on, the surface tends to slow down, which gives spinners ideal circumstances to take advantage of with their spins and changes. However, the dew effect might materialize and benefit the pursuing team.

It had a thorough renovation in 1995?1996 in preparation for the World Cup that year. Gaddafi Stadium can hold 27,000 spectators and was the site of the 1996 World Cup final.



Gaddafi Stadium has hosted 21 T20I till now and 12 times out of those 21, the team batting first have won the game. This shows that the pitch become slower in the second half of the innings.



Pakistan hosted Zimbabwe for the first time in Gaddafi Stadium where the host chased down 172 with ease but as the new trend is growing, batting second is a bit of a tough job at this venue. In the last 6 matches, the batting first side have won 5 games.



Due to their flat nature, the venue's fields are renowned for hosting run-feasts. Additionally, the wickets have solid bounce, which helps the slower bowlers later in the game and the quicks early in the contest.

Pakistan will re-welcome their long-standing skipper Babar Azam, who has recently been re-instated as the white-ball captain of the side. The Kiwis will be without the services of their regular players, who are currently involved with their duties in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Hence a second-string squad has been sent to Pakistan, led by Michael Bracewell, to play out the 5-game T20I series.



On the other side, Pakistan will be at their full strength for the T20I series. The likes of Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir, who had announced their retirement earlier, have been included in the team to bolster it further.

The Indian Cricket Team, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma is set to take part in the forthcoming marquee event of this year, Champions Trophy 2025. They are a part of Group - A alongside Asian Rivals Bangladesh, Fierce-Rivals Pakistan and New Zealand led by Mitchell Santner. Rohit Sharma and CO will be kicking off their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign versus Bangladesh on the 20th of February in the city of Dubai. 
India's squad for this year's mega event also got announced recently and the squad is largely similar to that of the 2023 ODI World Cup with the exception of Mohammed Siraj as Arshdeep Singh has taken his place in the squad. 
The duo of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant will be playing the roles of the Wicketkeeper batters and since the performance of the former was good in the 2023 ODI World Cup, he's likely to get the nod ahead of the latter. 
While Pant was out of action due to a life-threatning car accident, Rahul was the regular wicketkeeper of the Indian Team. In 2023 alone, the 31-year-old took part in 27 One-Day International games and amassed 1,060 runs, including seven fifties and two centuries. 
Once Pant returned, the team management decided to give him a chance to prove himself in the final contest of the Sri Lanka ODI series but he got dismissed for a duck. The newly appointed LSG skipper has a boundary percentage of 59.7%. This means that the Southpaw scores majority of his runs with the help of fours and sixes. 
His strike-rate in the 50 over format is also 107.5 and he also comes out to bat after 35 overs which is a favourable situation for Rishabh. 
But, the question which arises here is, who will be a better choice in the starting 11 for Team India as a wicket-keeper batsman, Rahul or Pant? Well, Cricket experts believe that Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector and skipper Rohit Sharma gave the answer to that question during the squad announcement. 
In the list of the 15-member squad, the top 11 important players were announced in the order of Batters, wicket-keeper, all-rounders and bowlers and the last three players were announced as Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Axar Patel. With this, it's believed that the above three mentioned players are going to be backups for the main playing 11. Therefore, it's likely that KL Rahul will start as the wicket-keeper, as he played in the 2023 ODI World Cup. 
In the recently concluded five-match BGT series versus Australia, Pant didn't play that well and he played wrong shots which led to his dismissals. It's believed that the 27-year-old is likely to not be given a spot in the Main Starting 11.

In what has been the latest development as per the reports in RevSportz, it is learned that India fast bowler Mohammed Shami will be missing part of the ongoing T20I series against England. The reports claimed that the pacer will be missing at least two more games in the series. 
India Cricket Team has been mulling over the fitness of Mohammed Shami. The fast bowler was included in the team as he was all set to make his comeback after the long injury. However, when he wasn't named in the XI for the first T20I, which raised speculations about his injury. 
Mohammed Shami reportedly faced some discomfort while climbing the steps. Rest, everything looked fine, and hence, BCCI won't want to rush him as they want him to be fit for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The pacer has been training hard with the team for the last few days.

He was expected to make the comeback during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 but then was sidelined due to the knee injury that he faced while playing domestic cricket. 
The wait to see Mohammed Shami in action continues. With Jasprit Bumrah having a niggle, he will be extremely important for India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament will be played in Pakistan and UAE from 19th February to 9th March.

India is currently locking horns with each other in the ongoing T20I series against England. Both the teams are scheduled to play a five-match series, out of which the opening game has been played. The match took place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday (22nd January). 
India were off to a flying start with bat in the series as they won the game by the massive margin of 7 wickets. It was a magnificent outing with the bat and ball as they bundled out England for 132 runs and then chased the target inside 13 overs to take the lead. 
India ticked almost every box right, and it's fair to say that they wouldn't want to change the winning combination. But considering how Gautam Gambhir has been dealing as a head coach, it's fair to say that the team might make a few changes going into the second match of the series, which will be played on 25th January.

If he is deemed fit then it is likely that he will be replacing Ravi Bishnoi in the team. The leg-spinner didn't pick a wicket in the first T20I, and with the kind of performances that Varun Chakravarthy has been putting, it is likely that he will be preferred ahead of him. Hence Shami will be there if he is fit. 
Washington Sundar in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy 
Another change that India might be tempted to make is bringing Washington Sundar in the XI. Since the match is set to be played in Chennai, it is likely that India would want to add a spinner to the team. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who didn't get to bat and ball in the match, is likely to make way for Sundar if the team wants to add another spinner in the team. 
Washington Sundar has been a regular member of the team in all three formats of the game. The all-rounder has been making vital contributions for the team with bat and bat and it remains to be seen if he makes it into the XI of the next game or not.
