WPL 2025 Auction: The Board of Cricket Council of India Women is preparing for the third iteration of the Women's Premier League and it begins with the mini-Auction. The auction for the 2025 season of WPL is scheduled to be held in December and the excitement and anticipation are all around. Delhi Capitals and RCB were the finalists of the 2024 season and RCB became the champions.

A total of 165 names are set to be auctioned on December 15. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, each of the five franchises have a total budget of INR 15 crore, up from INR 13.5 crore last year, to build their squads.
The mini-auction presents franchisees with the opportunity to fill up to 19 slots, comprising a maximum of 14 Indian players and 5 overseas players. These are the total number of players to be sold. However, the final squad size is capped at 18 players, with a limit of six overseas players, ensuring a balanced mix of local and international talent.

The WPL 2025 mini-auction is set to feature some star-studded names, including England captain Heather Knight, Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana, leg-spinner Poonam Yadav, and seasoned batter Veda Krishnamurthy. Ahead of the auction, franchises retained a total of 71 players, as confirmed in the WPL 2025 Retention List released on November 7. This auction promises exciting bids as teams look to bolster their squads with fresh talent and experience.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) have spent ₹12.50 crore so far, leaving them with ₹2.50 crore in their purse. They have four slots left to fill, including one for an overseas player. Similarly, the Gujarat Giants (GG) have ₹4.40 crore remaining after spending ₹10.60 crore, with four slots open, including two for overseas players.
The Mumbai Indians (MI) entered the auction with ₹2.65 crore left after spending ₹12.35 crore. They also have four slots to fill, one of which is reserved for an overseas player. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have spent ₹11.75 crore, leaving them with ₹3.25 crore to fill four remaining slots, though they have no overseas slots available.
The UP Warriorz (UP) have ₹3.90 crore in their purse after spending ₹11.10 crore. They have three slots left to fill, including one for an overseas player. With limited budgets and specific requirements, each franchise will need to carefully plan its bidding strategy to make the most of the opportunities presented at the auction.

WPL 2025 Auction: December 15, the date that changed the status of a lot of uncapped Indian players. 19 Star or 'to be star' players sold to five teams of the WPL from a vast pool of 120 players.

UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals faced tighter budgets but navigated the auction smartly. UP Warriorz, with ₹3.9 crore and three slots, focused on securing impact players, ensuring quality over quantity. WPL 2025 Auction: The conclusion of the WPL 2025 Auction, held in Bengaluru, has left us with complete information about the full squads of all five franchises. A total of 19 slots were available, and the teams showed a clear focus on scouting fresh, uncapped Indian talent. Simran Shaikh, an uncapped player from Mumbai, stole the spotlight at the auction, becoming the most expensive player of the day. WPL 2025 auction: Get ready for another big auction to be held as the auction ahead of the third season of the Women's Premier League is just one sleep away. After the success of the first two editions, the third edition is likely to be even grander. And the auction will set the tone for the WPL 2025.
The highly anticipated event will kick off the preparation of the WPL 2025. All five franchises will be looking to pick the best possible players for their team that can help them lift the title. A total of 19 slots are available among the five teams, which will make it even more interesting.
 The WPL 2025 auction is slated to take place in Bengaluru on Sunday, December 15. 400 players registered for the auction, but only 120 of them were lucky and will come under the hammer on Sunday. The list includes 91 Indian players (9 capped Indians), 29 overseas stars, and three players from Associate nations in the emerging category.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL), an IPL-like franchise-level competition held in India by the Women’s Cricket Management wing of the BCCI, which started in 2023, has attracted viewers and players from around the world.  
Legendary women cricketers across different nations have come in to appear for the five different IPL franchises as the WPL awaits its mini-auction with minimum slots remaining for every team and also a minimum purse amount left from their main purse of INR 15 crores.  
Let’s rate the teams on the basis of the players retained by each franchise: 
<h2 dir="ltr">Royal Challengers Bangalore  </h2>
Rating: 8/10  
The RCB women have done what the men’s team could not give their fans in so many years in the IPL, as they won the title in 2024. The defending champions have retained their core team with the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, Shreyanka Patil, and Richa Ghosh. 

Their latest inclusion through the draft has been <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danni_Wyatt-Hodge">Dani Wyatt</a>, the English opening batsman known for her commendable performances in limited-overs cricket for England.  

Have a fair bit of openers in skipper Mandhana and Wyatt, followed by an experienced middle order with Perry and Devine, while also the likes of Wareham and Richa Ghosh also add power to their tail. 
 
<h2 dir="ltr">UP Warriorz </h2>
Rating: 6/10 
The Warriors have never had the best of WPL seasons despite a quality squad consisting of several big names who performed occasionally well. Skipper Alyssa Healy leads the power-packed batting unit, comprising Australian all-rounders Grace Harris and Tahila McGrath.  
Sri Lankan all-rounders Athapattu, Ecclestone, and Deepti Sharma are among the other big names and rather the most in-form players who can be the game-changers for UP this season.  

<h2 dir="ltr">Gujarat Giants </h2>
Rating: 5/10
 
Despite having the current generation's three most sensational top-order batters in the world, the Gujarat Giants have always fallen short of a WPL final; they will be confident this season to bounce back.  
With the considerable form of Phoebic Lithfield and Laura Wolvaardt, the Giants can look to rebuild their all-rounders and bowling deck a bit, which would make them a relatively stronger side for the upcoming season. 
 
<h2 dir="ltr">Delhi Capitals </h2>
 
Rating: 9/10
 
The Delhi Capitals can undoubtedly be said to have the strongest WPL lineup; they just proved it with two consecutive WPL appearances in the finals. The Capitals have the most power-packed batting unit with their top three in Lanning, Shefali, and Jemimmah. 
 
While their middle order looks very decorated with the amount of international talent they possess, they will be in the quest for bowlers since they have only retained all-rounders for the purpose.  

<h2 dir="ltr">Mumbai Indians  </h2>

Rating: 10/10 

A team to fear just by watching them on the team sheets, as the 2023 champions can be undoubtedly said to have the most dynamic squad, especially with their bunch of all-rounders.  
Amy Kerr, Chloe Tryon, Hayley Matthews, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Nat Sciver Brunt, after all this amount of power-packed hitting, also possess the likes of players Shabnim Ismail and wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia.
