T20 World Cup: The T20I format has always seemingly been dominated by big-hitting batsmen from different parts of the world. The teams have always been banking upon their batsmen to win them the game in literally any situation.
However, even in this fast-forward format of the game, the bowlers have often provided their sides with crucial contributions on several occasions thereby proving their significance to the team.
An incredible first spell of bowling, a good over in the middle phase of the innings or even a good last over to defend a small total is good enough for any team to choke the opposition team and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
India too is blessed with several incredibly talented bowlers who've helped India register several amazing victories over the years in the T20 international matches time after time. It's time for us to have a look at the top three bowlers with the most wickets for India in T20 World Cup matches so far.
3. Irfan Pathan (16 wickets)
India's former bowling all-rounder Irfan Pathan finds himself in the third position in this list of top wicket takers for India in World T20 matches. He has an impressive strike rate of 16.10 in the world cup matches.
Known for his incredible swing and good enough pace, the left-arm pacer was one of the main architects during India's incredible 2007 T20 World T20 victory.
Pathan was also awarded the man of the match in the final of the hat tournament for bowling and an amazing spell of 3/16 against Pakistan at the Johanessburg.
2. Ravindra Jadeja (21 wickets)
Another star all-rounder for India, Ravindra Jadeja finds the second spot in this list. Jadeja has picked a total of 21 wickets in 22 world cup matches that he's bowled in so far. A highly orthodox left-arm spinner, Jadeja is extremely consistent with his tight line and lengths making it difficult for the batsmen to hit him for fours and sixes.
Their wicket-taking ability in addition to this makes him an even bigger threat to the opposition. His best friend ever bowling performing in a T20 World Cup match is 3/15 against Scotland.
1. Ravichandran Ashwin (26 wickets)
The leading wicket-taker for India in their T20 World Cup history. The veteran off-spinner has picked up 26 wickets in 18 world cup matches that he's bowled in so far.
In spite of being dropped from India's limited overs side in the period between 2017 and 2020, the 35-year-old has made a tremendous comeback to the team and has also been able to find a place in India's T20 World Cup squad that is to be played later this year.
His spell of 4/11 in the 2014 World Cup against Australia is his best bowling performance in a world cup match.
