The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is one of the most celebrated cricket rivalries between two of the best teams. The first-ever BGT trophy between India and Australia took place in 1996/97. Since then, these two teams have produced some high-voltage clashes. The batting conditions in both nations are totally different.

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has the highest individual score in the BGT history. He is the only batter with a triple hundred in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Clarke has played 22 tests overall and scored 2049 runs at an average of 53.92 with a best of 329. He has scored seven hundreds and six half-centuries.
4. Ricky Ponting
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting retired with the most test runs and test centuries for his country. In the BGT series, he has played 29 tests and scored 2555 runs at an average of 54.36 with a best of 257. Ponting has 8 centuries and 12 half-centuries.
3. Sachin Tendulkar
Legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar has been the leading scorer in test cricket against Australia. In the BGT series, he has led India to many wins. Sachin has featured in 34 tests and scored 3262 runs with a best of 241 not out. Sachin has nine centuries and 16 half-centuries.
2. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli loves Australia, and he has slammed 17 centuries in his career in his international career. He is one of the leading scorers in BGT for India. Virat has slammed nine centuries in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 27 games. With that he has scored 2102 runs at an average of 47.77 with a best of 186.

Steven Smith is certainly the best Test batter for Australia since the last decade or so. He has been the run machine for India and has slammed ten hundreds against India in tests. He has slammed nine hundreds against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 21 matches. He has also scored 2007 runs at 60.81.
