ICC: Cricket's Global Governing Body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced the updated Test Player Rankings following New Zealand's 3-0 Test-Series whitewash versus India.
Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant and veteran Kiwi bastman Daryl Mitchell have been the beneficiaries following their strong performances with the bat in the 3rd Test-match in Mumbai as the two have entered the top 10 ranks in the latest updated ICC Test Batting Rankings.
After scoring remarkable fifties in the Mumbai Test-match, Rishabh has made a jump of five places to move to the sixth spot in the Test Batting Rankings. This rise has brought him close to his career-best ranking of fifth position, which he achieved in July of 2022.
Mitchell on the other hand has also seen a major rise in his test batting ranking, moving to the seventh place from the 15th position after playing a good knock of 82 runs in the first inning in the Mumbai Test-match. He has now joined his fellow countryman Kane Williamson in the test-rankings, who is currently sitting at the second spot behind England's Joe Root.
Joe Root continues to maintain his ICC Test Batting Rankings dominance as he has gained a comfortable lead at the top of the ranking list and he's followed by Kane Williamson of New Zealand, fellow countryman Harry Brook (3rd place), Yashasvi Jaiswal of India (4th spot) and Steven Smith (5th place).
Prince of Indian Cricket Shubman Gill has also made major strides in Test Cricket, making a jump of four spots from the 20th position to 16th following his 90 run inning versus the Kiwis.
Will Young, who was adjudged as the Man-of-the-series in the three match Test-Series between India and New Zealand, also moved to the 44th place, making a jump of 29 ranks.
India's elite batter Virat Kohli drops out of top 20 Test Batting Ranks for the first time in 10 years.
Indian Cricket Team's premier batsman Virat Kohli has dropped out of the top-20 Test Batting Ranks after an abysmal display with the bat in the 3rd and final Test-match of the three-match series versus the Kiwis.
The 36-year-old, who has scored just two half-centuries in the current year across all-formats, has dropped to the 22nd place from the 14th spot. He has 655 rating points next to his name. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma on the other hand also dropped to the 26th place after a subpar performance with the bat.
In the bowling rankings, Ravindra Jadeja moved up two spots to sixth place after taking ten wickets in Mumbai, while Ajaz Patel, who took 11 wickets during the match, jumped a staggering 12 spots to 22nd. From 53rd to 46th and 73rd to joint-70th, respectively, Washington Sundar and Ish Sodhi also improved.
