Virat Kohli Set To Create History: The 'Run-machine' Virat Kohli has been one of the finest top-order players for India ever since he made his debut in international cricket. The ace Indian hitter has set several records over his illustrious career, and he is about to add yet another significant feat to his long list of accomplishments.
Virat Kohli needs to score six runs in the third T20I against Afghanistan on 17 January, Wednesday and he will become the first Indian batter to complete 12000 runs in the T20 format. The runs are the sum of his T20 International runs and Domestic T20 runs.
With 11994 runs in 375 games, Kohli will be the fourth hitter worldwide to reach the milestone. Top of the list in 463 T20 matches, 14562 runs scored by West Indies great Chris Gayle followed by Shoaib Malik (12993 in 525 games) and Kieron Pollard (12430 in 639 matches).
Virat returned to the Indian T20I side after 14 months in the second T20I in Indore since India lost in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup. Stepping in the T20I format, he unleashed his power-hitting abilities, putting on an impressive performance for the crowd by scoring 29 runs in just 16 balls. Kohli will be seeking to create history as he attempts to break the mark and become the first Indian to accomplish this feat.
India are already 2-0 up in the series and have sealed a series win. The upcoming Bengaluru T20I will be the last game for India in the shortest format of the game before the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which is set to be hosted in the West Indies and the USA from June 1 to 29.
India and Afghanistan are set to play the third T20I at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. With already two games under their belt, Team India might look to experiment a bit to ensure all their players are warmed up. The likes of Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav and Avesh Khan are anticipated to get some game time in the 3rd T20I in Bengaluru.
