Virat Kohli sustains groin injury, likely to miss 1st ODI against England: Troubling batter Virat Kohli is likely to miss tomorrow’s opening One Day International (ODI) match against England at Kennington Oval, London after suffering a groin injury during the third T20I. Kohli, who scored 11 runs from six balls in the last T20 Internationals, is learnt to have not travelled with his rest of the mates for the first ODI.
Though the extent of the injury is still unknown, the Indian management would be hopeful for Virat’s return in the last T20 50-over matches in Lord’s London and Manchester.
“Virat has a groin strain during last game. It can’t be confirmed whether it happened during fielding or while batting. He will probably miss first ODI tomorrow at Oval as the groin needs rest,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
Kohli stayed back at Nottingham so as to get complete scans of his niggle. The official report from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to come.

Notably, players selected for the ODI series had an optional net session on Monday. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna were seen having net practice ahead of the game.
Kohli’s groin niggle could be one of the reasons why BCCI delayed the announcement of the Indian squad for the West Indies tour. The squad that was slated to be announced on Monday is likely to be rolled out by Tuesday.
The Indian players will face England in the first of the three matches ODI series on July 12th in Kennington Oval, London. The following two matches will be held on July 14 and 17 respectively.
