Why Team India has not qualified for World Cup 2023 Semi-Final despite 6 Wins in ICC World Cup 2023

ICC World Cup 2023 Team India: With six victories in as many games, India's form in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 remains red hot and unassailable so far. The hosts have managed to go past every obstacle that were thrown towards them in the World Cup 2023 quite convincingly. However, despite such a terrific record and six wins, India has yet not qualified for World Cup 2023 Semi-Finals: Know Why?
Team India's recent victory came against England, the defending champions. India defeated Jos Buttler and his boys by a massive 100 runs at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow to bring up their sixth win of the tournament.
The win against England was quite convincing for India as they batted first for the first time in the showpiece event. Skipper Rohit Sharma wanted to challenge his team and as it turned out, the players got out of it. India scored 229 runs in 50 overs with the skipper remaining as the highest run-getter. Later in the game, India reduced England to a meagre total of 129 runs and won the game by 100 runs.
Notably, India has earlier defeated Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand to win their first five matches before demolishing England in the sixth fixture.
How can Team India not qualify for World Cup 2023 Semi-Final?
Though Team India has realistically qualified for the World Cup 2023 semi-final, mathematically the team is yet to see it happen. The chances of India not qualifying for the World Cup 2023 semi-final are very slim.
For this to happen, India will have to lose all of their remaining three World Cup 2023 fixtures, which would put them in a spot of bother. India's next three games are against - Sri Lanka (Nov 2), South Africa (Nov 5) and Netherlands (Nov 12).
With the form India is in, no one can think this result would be possible unless a slew of improbable results transpire. In this case, India will finish their campaign on 12 points (6 wins) and can be pushed out from the top 4 only by Afghanistan, who is currently at sixth place with three wins from six matches.
Afghanistan has three more fixtures and needs to win all of them to eliminate India out of the top 4.
Barring Afghanistan, no one of the remaining five teams in the bottom six bracket can come as an obstacle for Team India due to their lesser number of victories.
Moreover, New Zealand and Australia, placed at third and fourth place in the points table, will have to win two of their remaining three matches and only lose to Afghanistan. South Africa, too, will have to win one of their remaining three matches to match India's tally of 12 points.
How can Team India Qualify for World Cup 2023 semi-final?
India's equation to qualify for World Cup 2023 semi-final is quite simple. Just a win in any of its remaining three matches would mean India is through to the semi-final. India's next match is against Sri Lanka on November 2, a win from that game would do the trick for Team India.
It's important to note that if any of the remaining three India fixtures in the World Cup 2023 get washed out, then the teams will share one point each which would also mean that India are through to the World Cup 2023 semi-final.
