Will Ravi Shastri continue to coach team India? Kapil Dev has his say.

Indian legendary former captain Kapil Dev reckons that there is no reason to remove Ravi Shastri, the current head coach of team India, from the position if he is doing well and producing results.

Shastri?s tenure as a head coach will end after the T20 World Cup 2021 which is scheduled in the UAE and Oman during October-November.

Speculations have been there that the current NCA chief Rahul Dravid, who is on the tour of Sri Lanka as a head coach of the second-string Indian team, will apply for the post.

"I don?t think there is any need to speak about it. Let this Sri Lanka series get over. We?ll get to know the kind of performance our team has dished out,? former skipper Kapil Dev told ABP News.

The current head coach can also re-apply for the role if he believes he can produce more results in the near future.

?If you?re trying to shape a new coach, there?s nothing wrong with it. Then again, if Ravi Shastri continues to do a good job, there?s no reason to remove him either. Only time will tell.?

The 59-years old has taken India to triumph against Australia two times in Border Gavaskar Trophy and have led India to the Semi-Finals of ICC ODI 2019 World Cup and the final of ICC World Test Championship where the team bowed down against New Zealand in both instances.

India recently lost the all-important inaugural ICC World Test Championship by eight wickets.

Team India is currently split into two contingents, the senior led by Virat Kohli is on the England tour while the second string led by southpaw Shikhar Dhawan is in a limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka.

"India have a big bench strength. If players get the opportunity and India can assemble two teams that can claim to win in both England and Sri Lanka, there is nothing better,? added Kapil Dev.

The former cricketer is delighted to see a lot of youngsters getting their chances in the Sri Lanka tour.

?If the youngsters get the opportunity, there?s nothing wrong with it. But if it is up to the team management to decide whether they should apply such pressure on two teams simultaneously," Kapil pointed out.
