World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated: The ICC World Cup 2023 is drawing close to the business end as we have nearly got our top 4 qualified teams for the semi-finals. New Zealand’s convincing victory against Sri Lanka, last night, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has shut the qualification doors for other teams in the fray. New Zealand have consolidated their fourth position in the World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated on November 9 after the New Zealand vs Sri Lanka fixture.

The Kiwis were right on the money from the start of the fixture against Sri Lanka. They restricted the island nation at a meagre 171 runs total in 46.4 overs. Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera top-scored the innings with 51 run knock in 28 deliveries. The next best knock came from tailender batter Maheesh Theekshana, who scored 38 runs in 91 deliveries.

Pacer Trent Boult scalped three wickets, while two apiece went to Lokie Ferguson, Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Santner. Tim Southee, meanwhile, got one on his bag too to reduce Sri Lanka to 171 runs before packing them up.

The target set by the Sri Lankans was never going to threaten the Kiwis. It was just a piece of cake for them, who skilfully negotiated the task.

In 23.2 overs, New Zealand hunted down the score put up by Sri Lanka. Valuable contributions came from Devon Conway (45), Rachin Ravindra (42) and Daryl Mitchell (43).

New Zealand’s five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Bengaluru has disappointed two teams, who were in the fray for the last semi-final spot in the tournament. The victory has put the Kiwis in a comfortable position and they are likely to proceed further in the tournament.

While Afghanistan has been virtually knocked out of the World Cup 2023 semi-finals, Pakistan’s chances of advancing to the knockout stage are very slim.

Pakistan’s best chance to qualify would be to score 400 runs batting first and then restrict England to a meagre score of 112 runs. This scenario would result in a massive surge in Pakistan’s net run rate, which will go over New Zealand’s NRR. However, this equation looks unrealistic, especially if we look at how Pakistan has fared in the World Cup 2023.
