World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma talks about his retirement plans: "I am looking forward to the upcoming World Cup in the United States of America (USA)," says Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who is on a visit to the country after completing his national duties with the Indian team. In the video circulating across the internet, Rohit Sharma could be watched talking about his future plans with team India.

Rohit Sharma, who led India to the World Test Championship (WTC) Final in 2023, categorically indicated that he is still far from his last swansong and that he will be looking to play the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.

Under Rohit Sharma's leadership, India looks to end its decade-long ICC trophy draught. He took India to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in 2022 but the team faltered when it was required to perform. The same happened as India played its second consecutive WTC Final in 2023.

Meanwhile, right now team India is eyeing the impending ICC World Cup 2023, which happens to be India's best chance to win the ICC title. India will be hosting the tournament from October 5 to November 19.

Talking about his visit to the USA, Rohit Sharma said there was a larger motive, than just enjoying, behind his tour to the United States.

?More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the World Cup is coming. In June, there will be the T20 World Cup (2024) happening in this part of the world. So, I'm pretty sure everyone is excited. So yaa, we look forward to that,? Rohit said.

The Indian captain explained the rationale behind BCCI's move to rest the senior players for the T20Is tours. He said the World Cup 2023 is on the priority list of team India and looking at that workload of certain players needed to be managed, which is why the senior players are being rested.

"At the moment I think it was made clear in the past that it's a 50-over World Cup year for us. And for some of the guys, it's not possible to play all formats. If you look at the schedule, there were back-to-back matches, so we decided to just look at some players' workloads that we wanted to make sure that they get enough break time and manage them. I definitely fall in that (category) as well," Rohit had told reporters in a press conference.

Reportedly, it was said that the BCCI has made up its mind to go past the senior players in the shortest format of the game, which is why they are being ignored from the T20Is. It added that due to players' tendency to choke in the crucial knockout matches, new players are being tested and the side will be led by all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
