Team India suffered an embarrassing defeat in the pink ball test at Adelaide Oval inside three days at the hands of Australia. After winning the first Test in Perth, India entered the second game with full confidence, but India had yet another batting failure in the first innings of the second test.
India couldn't even reach 200 runs in two innings of the second test. They were bundled out for just 180 runs in the first innings and 175 runs in the second innings. As a result, Australia bagged a resounding win by ten wickets to level the series 1-1. After having a small target of 19 runs to chase, they did the formalities in just 3.2 overs.
For India, Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 42 runs in each innings and looked in control. There was not even a single fifty for India in two innings. Travis Head led Australia to a big first-innings score of 337. The Southpaw slammed a counterattacking century and made 140 off 141 balls with 17 fours and four sixes.
Head also won the Player of the Match and helped his team level the series 1-1. Mitchell Starc took 8, and captain Pat Cummins took seven wickets in the game. These two teams will now face each other in the third test at The Gabba in Brisbane, starting on December 14.
WTC 2023-25: India slipped to third place in the World Test Championship 2023-25
Before this test, India were at the top of the World Test Championship table. But this ten-wicket defeat in Adelaide has come as a big blow to India's chances to qualify for the WTC final. India have skipped to third place on the table. Australia have not just levelled the series 1-1, but they have also replaced India from the top.
The Men in Yellow have nine wins out of 14 games and have a PCT of 60.71. South Africa are second on the table with a PCT of 59.26. India have slipped to third place with six defeats in 16 games with a PCT of 57.26. Now, the remaining three games are very important for India for their chances. They will hope that Sri Lanka can beat South Africa in the second test.
India need to win the remaining three games to stand a fair chance at a shot at the WTC final. If they lost one or two games from the remaining three, then it would become difficult for them, and they might be eliminated from the race. Hence, it is time for Rohit Sharma and his men to pull up their socks and get ready for the last three games.
