BCCI Women are set to organize the WPL auction 2025 in the month of December. A total of 165 players are set to go under the hammer and play in one of the most famous women's cricket leagues.

WPL 2025 Auction: The Board of Cricket Council of India Women is preparing for the third iteration of the Women's Premier League and it begins with the mini-Auction. The auction for the 2025 season of WPL is scheduled to be held in December and the excitement and anticipation are all around. Delhi Capitals and RCB were the finalists of the 2024 season and RCB became the champions. 

A total of 165 names are set to be auctioned on December 15. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, each of the five franchises have a total budget of INR 15 crore, up from INR 13.5 crore last year, to build their squads.

The mini-auction presents franchisees with the opportunity to fill up to 19 slots, comprising a maximum of 14 Indian players and 5 overseas players. These are the total number of players to be sold. However, the final squad size is capped at 18 players, with a limit of six overseas players, ensuring a balanced mix of local and international talent.

The WPL 2025 mini-auction is set to feature some star-studded names, including England captain Heather Knight, Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana, leg-spinner Poonam Yadav, and seasoned batter Veda Krishnamurthy. Ahead of the auction, franchises retained a total of 71 players, as confirmed in the WPL 2025 Retention List released on November 7. This auction promises exciting bids as teams look to bolster their squads with fresh talent and experience.

Money Spent and Purse Remaining

The Delhi Capitals (DC) have spent ₹12.50 crore so far, leaving them with ₹2.50 crore in their purse. They have four slots left to fill, including one for an overseas player. Similarly, the Gujarat Giants (GG) have ₹4.40 crore remaining after spending ₹10.60 crore, with four slots open, including two for overseas players.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) entered the auction with ₹2.65 crore left after spending ₹12.35 crore. They also have four slots to fill, one of which is reserved for an overseas player. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have spent ₹11.75 crore, leaving them with ₹3.25 crore to fill four remaining slots, though they have no overseas slots available.

The UP Warriorz (UP) have ₹3.90 crore in their purse after spending ₹11.10 crore. They have three slots left to fill, including one for an overseas player. With limited budgets and specific requirements, each franchise will need to carefully plan its bidding strategy to make the most of the opportunities presented at the auction.
