WPL 2025: Who won match no 4 of the WPL between Delhi Capitals & Royal Challengers Bengaluru?

Match number four of the 2025 Women's Premier League (WPL) was played between the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Kotambi Stadium of Vadodara. Both teams are regarded as two of the strongest teams in the competition and everyone was expecting to see a hard fought contest between the two sides.

But, it turned out to be a one sided contest and the Bengaluru fans got the chance to be the happier fan base at the end of the game as the Smriti Mandhana-led team secured a comfortable & easy win over the Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals by a margin of eight wickets.

Having been asked to bat first by the RCB skipper, fans thought that they were in for a treat as the duo of Shafali Verma & Meg Lanning walked out to bat. But, the shot selection from the DC batters was very poor. They were dealt an early blow in the first two balls of the game as pacer Renuka Singh Thakur sent the dangerous Shafali back to the pavilion for an early shower as she hit the ball straight back to RCB captain Smriti at mid-off.

Following her early dismissal, Jemimah Rodrigues walked out to bat at number three and started to attack the RCB bowlers. Lanning found the boundary rope thrice behind the point region in quick succession and her Indian batting partner at the other end also showcased some sublime strokeplay and got into the act.

Their partnership of 59 runs for the 2nd wicket helped the Delhi-based team to end the powerplay in a much better and suitable manner. Both of these batters were planning to stick around together at the crease and dominate the middle overs but the RCB bowlers had some other plans as Georgia Wareham (3-25) got the better of Jemimah with a stump out dismissal while Kim Garth took the assistance of Ellyse Perry to send the Delhi Capitals skipper back to the pavilion.

Following the dismissals of these two players, the two time runner's-up kept losing more & more wickets at regular intervals as no batter was given the chance to settle down at the crease by the excellent RCB bowling unit. The trio of Jess Jonassen (1 run), Annabel Sutherland (19 runs) & Marizanne Kapp (12 runs) perished in the overs between 11-14 and it was now down to the lower-order of DC to salvage the inning.

The duo of Shikha Pandey (14 runs) & Sarah Bryce (23 runs) knocked the ball around for singles and doubles for a while but they started their aggression and helped their team reach a respectable score into the death overs phase before the latter got dismissed.

They were eventually bundled out for a score of 141 runs with three balls to spare and the RCB bowling unit headed back to the pavilion with a big smile on their faces.

The score of 142 runs looked like a really easy one for a team who chased 200+ runs just a few days ago at the same ground and the sublime batting display of Bengaluru helped them get over the line.

Skipper Smriti Mandhana (81 runs) walked out to the crease with intent & purpose and she took the attack to the DC bowlers from ball number one as Danni Wyatt-Hodge (42 runs) played the role of the supporter. Meg Lanning introduced spinner Minu Manni in the 3rd over the chase in order to get the important wicket of the RCB captain but instead ended up scoring 10 runs off her over and picked out the gaps with ease.

Wyatt-Hodge at the other end didn't wanna play second fiddle for long and she started to go all out too as she hit a couple of well-timed boundaries in the final few overs of the powerplay. 22 runs came off the final powerplay overs and the Defending Champions needed just 85 runs to secure the win.

The RCB openers didn't stop attacking after the conclusion of the powerplay and took the game out of the hands of Delhi as Smriti registered a fifty of her own. They crossed the 100 runs mark right after the 10th over and while Arundhati Reddy took the wicket of Wyatt-Hodge, too much damage was already done and the game was in the bags of Bengaluru.

Smriti in search of a well-deserved hundred, continued with her aggressive brand of Cricket but failed to carry on for long as Shikha Pandey accounted for her dismissal. But in the end, Perry & Richa Ghosh helped them get across the finish line easily.
