WTC Final: Australia Announced Strong 17-men Squad for WTC Final: India and Australia recently met in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where India sealed the 4th consecutive trophy by a 2-1 scoreline. Early in June of this year, Australia and India will battle again to become the World Test Title winner. Australia announced a strong 17-men squad for the WTC final.
Australia has unveiled their 17-person squad for the decisive match against India at the Oval, the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Importantly, the team management has called back all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis, and opening batter Marcus Harris ahead of the English summer.
Pat Cummins, who left the India tour early and missed the third and fourth Tests to take care of his unwell mother in Australia, will take over as captain of the team. Steven Smith, who led Australia in the final two tests, has been reappointed as Vice-Captain.
Surprisingly, Southpaw David Warner also made it into the squad despite a slump in his batting performance. Warner has recovered from an elbow injury incurred during the Test series in India in February and is still in the frame to be chosen for the ICC World Test Championship final, which begins on June 7.
The core lineup that led Australia to the WTC Final against India with consistent performances over the previous two years has been maintained by the national selection panel as expected. Usman Khawaja has been included in the squad and is anticipated to open the inning. David Warner, Marcus Harris, and Matt Renshaw are possible alternatives to partner with the veteran at the top of the order.
Four specialist quicks?skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Scott Boland?along with seam allrounders Cameron Green and Marsh, spinners Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy, made up to the squad.
