Former South African speedster Dale Steyn, who was a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) as their bowling-coach on Thursday, 17th of October, announced his decision of stepping-down from the post ahead of IPL 2025 on his X handle.



The 41-year-old, who represented the likes of Gujarat Lions (now-defunct), Sunrisers Hyderabad, Deccan Chargers (now-defunct) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru as a player before opting to become the bowling-coach of the Hyderabad based franchise, said that he won't be coming back to India for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich T20 league but he will continue to represent the sister-franchise of SRH, two time winners Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20, the t20 league of South Africa and help them in lifting the trophy for the third successive time.



"I would want to express my gratitude to Sunrisers Hyderabad for the few years I worked there as their bowling coach during the IPL, but I will not be returning for the 2025 edition of the tournament. But here in South Africa, I will still be working with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20. Steyn tweeted, "We've won the SA20 twice; let's try for three in a row."



The former legendary South African seamer was appointed as the bowling-coach of the Hyderabad based franchise in December of 2021, and he represented the franchise in that role for three seasons. Under his guidance, players such as Umran Malik flourished in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League as the J&amp;K pacer picked up 22 scalps in 14 games and he also got the opportunity to represent India in International-Cricket.



In the previous edition of the IPL, Steyn worked with ODI World Cup winning Australian captain Pat Cummins, who was also appointed as the skipper of the 2016 IPL winners after being picked up in the 2024 auction for a humongous price tag of 20.50 crore Indian rupees.

IPL 2024 Final Awards List: Following a gruelling two months of intense cricket and battles, the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) has finally reached its climax. Shreyas Iyer's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) trounced Pat Cummins' spearheaded Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 final to clinch their third title. SRH, unfortunately, couldn't ride high on the back of their batters this time as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowlers kept things tight and demanding throughout the first innings after being put to bowl first by Cummins.



Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) managed a meagre 113 runs in 18.3 overs before getting wrapped by the KKR. Skipper Pat Cummins played a 24-run knock, which was the highest knock of the innings by the team in the final. While Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana laid the foundation of the solid bowling effort with two wickets each, Andre Russell chipped in during the middle overs to dismantle the batting order as he scalped 3 wickets. Meanwhile, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine got one wicket apiece.



With just 113 runs on the board, SRH required a cluster of wickets to put KKR in the backfoot. However, that couldn't happen, despite the wicket of Sunil Narine. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39 runs) and Venkatesh Iyer (52* runs) stitched a fine 100-run partnership to secure an easy win for KKR in the IPL 2024 final.



KKR pulled off the chase in just 10.3 overs with the loss of 2 wickets and won the contest by 8 wickets.



Following the win in the IPL 2024 final, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer collected the trophy and added one more to their already decorated cabinet. KKR has previously won the IPL 2012 and 2014 title under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir.

Ever since Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has ended, Rohit's future as a Test skipper has come under massive pressure and there have been reports that he is all set to be replaced in the role, especially with him going through poor form.
When Rohit Sharma dropped himself from the fifth Test, it was Jasprit Bumrah who took the leadership but got injured that match, which was the last match of the series. There have been a lot of speculations that he will be becoming the next Test captain, but his injury concerns are likely to work against him. 
If Jasprit Bumrah becomes the Test captain then he will have to play all the games, which will surely make him injured. Hence, this has been the biggest talking point if he has been given the role of Test captaincy permanently. 
A source close to BCCI said that selectors are looking for a more stable option because Jasprit Bumrah will always be in doubt. He mentioned that Shubman Gill was seen as a potential candidate, but his poor run of form has been a cause of concern.

The source added that Rishabh Pant is one of the strong candidates to be the Test captain but added that selectors are seeing Yashasvi Jaiswal as a potential leader in the team. Speaking to the Times of India, he said: 
"Bumrah’s chances of a long Test series or completing a full season will always be in doubt. The selectors may want a more stable option. Gill has been seen as a captaincy prospect but his returns in Test cricket have been average. Rishabh Pant could also be a strong candidate and maybe someone like Yashashvi Jaiswal can be groomed for the role," 
The source also added that selectors are also having discussions related to the ODI captain. He mentioned that along with Shubman Gill, the name of Hardik Pandya is also being considered. He added: 
"There have also been some discussions around Hardik Pandya being given the responsibility, given his experience," 
There have been reports that Rohit Sharma's future as the captain will be decided after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. If he doesn't have a good tournament then he is likely to be replaced.

Pat Cummins, the veteran Australian skipper, is highly unlikely to play in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With Australia supposed to kickstart their campaign from the 22nd of February against England in the ICC Champions Trophy, Cummins's return seems highly unlikely.
