Vivo IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals named first Covid-19 backup for Axar Patel.

Vivo IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals (DC) on Thursday roped in Mumbai?s left-arm spinner Shams Mulani as the first Covid-19 backup for all-rounder Axar Patel as he failed to recover from the deadly virus and again tested covid-positive.

Karnataka off-spinner Aniruddha Joshi has been roped in by Delhi Capitals (DC) as the replacement of injured skipper Shreyas Iyer.

All these details were confirmed in the media release of the Indian Premier League (IPL) however the report didn?t mention anything about paceman Anrich Nortje who is believed to be covid-positive.

Delhi Capitals regular skipper Shreyas Iyer sustained a shoulder injury in the England series and post which he was ruled out of the Indin T20 tournament.

?Delhi Capitals have brought in Shams Mulani as a short-term COVID-19 replacement for Axar Patel for their IPL-2021 campaign,? the release stated.

?Axar had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus during his mandatory quarantine ahead of the season and was subsequently taken to BCCI?s medical facility for isolation and treatment,? it further stated.

The Indian all-rounder was first tested covid-positive on 3rd April and it?s been 12 days always. It is understood that Axar Patel will not be available for the games anytime soon due to which short term covid-19 replacement Shams Mulani has been brought in.

Shams will not be allowed to play for any other franchise in this season once he leaves Delhi Capitals after Axar Patel come into the side with a full recovery.

As per the new rule implemented by BCCI due to covid-19 restrictions, franchises can have a short term replacement option for any player who has been tested covid positive. The player named as a replacement will be with the franchise until the original member of the franchise comes back in (in this case Axar Patel).
