India vs England: Narendra Modi Stadium pitch escapes demerit points after ICC match referee gave it ?Average? rating in the recent evaluation. The newly revamped stadium hosted the recently concluded last two test games between India and England.
The surface used in the third test in Narendra Modi Stadium became the epicentre of criticism and debate as the Test game between India and England lasted only two days.
Any Stadium can be banned for one year if it accumulates 5 demerit points while the ban can be of two years if it picks up 10 demerit points.
The ratings are generally given by match referees of the International Cricket Council (ICC). ?Below Average? rating will attract one demerit point, ?Poor? rating brings three demerit points while ?Unfit? rating is 5 demerit points.
The third test was completed in mere two days after 30 wickets were taken in the sheer turning track. Former Indian pacer, Javagal Shreenath was the match referee in the four game test series between India and England.
None of the sides were able to reach 150 runs in the third test which brought many former cricketers into the debate around the surface used in the newly revamped Narendra Modi Stadium.
The surface used for the second test in MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai was rated as ?Average?. It assisted spinners from ball one and Indian bowlers bowled out England in the fourth day to seal 317 runs win.
Match Referee gave ?Very Good? rating to the first test pitch which England won however the surface used for the fourth and final test in Ahmedabad was rated as ?Good? surface for the Test cricket.
