ICC World Cup 2023: Virat Kohli breaks huge record of Sachin Tendulkar in ICC tournaments?

India kickstarted their campaign in the ICC World Cup 2023 with a 6-wicket win over Australia in Chennai. They were under pressure but their batters Virat Kohli and KL Rahul stood tall and batted staggeringly well to take their team home.

Virat Kohli was at his best during the ICC World Cup 2023 game against Australia in Chennai. The Indian batter yet again shined in pressure situation and batted magnificently to make sure that his side start the tournament on high. 

In the chase of 200 runs, India were crumbling at 2/3. Virat Kohli walked out at No.3 and soaked in all the pressure. The batter took his game and respected the conditions but once he was in he took the game away  from Australia.

Virat Kohli scored 85 runs off 116 balls and also smashed 6 boundaries in his innings. During his innings, he broke a massive record of great Sachin Tendulkar in the ICC tournament. The batter overtook the former Indian skipper to become India?s leading run-getter in ICC events. 

Sachin Tendulkar had scored 2719 runs in 58 innings whereas Virat Kohli with his 85 against Australia surpassed his tally. The batter has over 2720 runs in just 64 innings. Rohit Sharma is also in the list as he has 2422 runs in 64 innings.

Virat Kohli can surpass Sachin Tendulkar in the most number of centuries in the ODIs. The senior batter currently has 47 ODI hundreds and is just two tons away from scripting history. Tendulkar has 49 hundreds and if Kohli can smash three tons this tournament, he can create a World record. 

Virat Kohli also overtook Sri Lanka Legend Kumar Sangakkara to score most 50+ scores as non opener. The Indian batter now has 113 scores 50 plus scores in 113 innings over whereas the former Sri Lanka cricketer had 112 in 359 innings.
