Adding to their lead, Tony and Markram were brisk at the top and were quick to add runs. Tristan Stubbs was exceptional in their and struck 68 runs off 50 balls and the Proteas were 297 runs ahead and they declared.
The last day saw a lot of rain. The West Indies faced an early blow, losing a wicket in the brief, tense overs before lunch. As the heavens opened, the second session was delayed by a full hour, heightening the anticipation. When play resumed, South Africa struck quickly, claiming another wicket, but the West Indies were not to be easily tamed.
Athanaze took the stage with a commanding presence, his intent clear from the very first ball. He anchored the innings with poise, as his teammates rallied around him. The promise of a maiden century loomed large, yet in a moment of desperation, he let it slip away as the shadows lengthened. Despite this, the clock was the West Indies’ ally, leaving South Africa with too steep a mountain to climb in too little time. With no victory in sight, both sides reluctantly agreed to a truce, shaking hands, and settled it as a DRAW.
