The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is moving towards its business end, and there are only a few games left in the tournament. Team India have been phenomenal, and they have certainly carried on the tag of the favourites to win the title. The Men in Blue entered the tournament as one of the top contenders, and they have played like one. India are one of the two teams that have lost a single game in the tournament.
They have also won both Super 8 matches comprehensively and are on the verge of qualifying for the semi-final. India have certainly changed their tactics in this T20 World Cup 2024 and have gone with a more balanced squad. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are opening together for the first time in the ICC events, and then the team are going with four problem all-rounders in the team to get more balance in both departments. That has made them the team to beat in this tournament.
Why Team India have the best chance to win the T20 World Cup 2024?
The Men in Blue are in desperate need of an ICC title. They came very close in their last two attempts but ended up bottling up in the pressure situation. India won the last ICC title in 2013, when MS Dhoni led them to the Champions Trophy win. But since then, this team has struggled in knockouts.
They lost the finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 and the World Test Championship against Australia in the last 12?14 months. But this tournament will be a great chance for India to win. Firstly, it looks like the management has figured out the reason for India's failure in knockouts. That's why the Indians are going with a long batting line-up until No. 8.
It is because the Indian top order has failed in knockout, and the middle order has also struggled under pressure. But now, India have a number of proven batters like Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Axar Patel who can take the pressure away. Secondly, India have given them more chances to go with three spinners in the team.
The conditions in West Indies are best suited for spinners, and that's where India can take down the opposition. Adding to that, both Virat and Rohit are looking to play freely without thinking about wickets; that approach is well needed to win the tournament. So it won't be a surprise if India go on to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
If it happens, it will certainly change many things for India and the cricket world. It will definitely bring back confidence into other Asian teams as well. Notably, the last time Asian teams won an ICC event was in 2017, when Pakistan won the Champions Trophy.
