India VS South Africa ODI Series: Sanju Samson likely to be Vice Captain, Rajat Patidar to Get National Call Up.  

India VS South Africa ODI series will get underway just as the India VS South Africa T20I series ends. The Indian Cricket Team is expected to make a second-string squad for the ODI series against South Africa. The reason for this is that the senior players will be wanting some rest before the upcoming T20I World Cup. Shikhar Dhawan, who isn?t a part of the World Cup squad is expected to lead. Sanju Samson is likely to be named the deputy. Here is an in-depth look: 

Shikhar Dhawan Captain, Sanju Vice Captain for India VS South Africa ODIs: 

As we have seen in previous tours of Sri Lanka and the West Indies, in the absence of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharam from the ODI format, it is Shikhar Dhawan who takes charge. Dhawan has had an exceptional record with the teams that he plays. The games played are often played without the big names but the games are very interesting. Sanju is expected to be named as vice-captain. The reason is his experience of captaincy.  

Sanju has been leading the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL for the past few years. He was also named the captain of the India A Team in the recently concluded India A VS New Zealand A series. He took India A to a 3-0 series win in the ODI format. Sanju Samson has represented India in seven ODIs and 16 T20Is so far. 

Rajat Patidar is expected to Get a National Call-Up: 

Rajat Patidar, the middle-order batter from Madhya Pradesh is expected to get his national call-up in the series against South Africa. His elite performances at the domestic level over the past few seasons and the great season of IPL have earned him this.  

Rajat has been bursting on the domestic circuit since the 2021 SMAT. He was among the top run-getter in that tournament. Further, his recent performances for Madhya Pradesh helped Madhya Pradesh lift the Ranji Trophy for the first time. The impact of his 100 in the Qualifier 1 was such that he impressed the cricket community. The team is expected to have senior names like Sanju Samson, Shubman Gill, Shardul Thakur, Prasidh Krishna (Subject to fitness), and Mohammed Shami.
