IPL 2021: Punjab CM questions BCCI over Mohali snub as the IPL 2021 Venue.
IPL 2021: The venues of the fourteenth edition of IPL has been finalised. A total of six venues are shortlisted by the authorities and the entire IPL will be held across those six stadiums. Although the IPL is hosted in India, there have been slight tweaks to the format of the game as compared to the history.
Among the six venues, Mohali is not mentioned and Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Captain Amrinder Singh asks BCCI the reason why they ignored Mohali as the IPL 2021 Venue.
Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Kolkata will be the six venues where the games will be held. Initially, Mumbai was on doubts due to the surge in the covid-19 cases however, the venue was included in the list.
The BCCI is yet to disclose the official reasons why they opt out of Mohali as the venues of the forthcoming IPL. If reports are to be believed, the ongoing farmers protest in the state and various parts of India forced the authorities to snub.
?We don?t want a situation to arise where we have an IPL match in Mohali and a farmer agitation march moves towards the stadium. It will attract media attention from all over the world. We don?t want such a situation to arise. Mohali is not among shortlisted venues due to the current scenario in the northern part of India,? said BCCI official.
Amarinder Singh wrote a letter to the BCCI highlighting the issues.
?I have written to them (BCCI) saying if they can have a match in Mumbai, which has had 9,000 cases per day, then what's wrong with Mohali. We will take the necessary precautions,? Amarinder Singh was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
It is highly unlikely if BCCI considers Punjab CM?s request as the official schedule and venues are revealed. It remains to be seen how the BCCI and authorities answer the queries of Punjab CM Captain Amrinder Singh.
