IPL 2023: Players who can replace Jasprit Bumrah in IPL 2023 in MI Squad: Ahead of the IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians (MI) Squad dealt a significant blow after their premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah was deemed unfit to feature in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Jasprit Bumrah, who leads the pace attack in MI, is suffering from a recurring back injury and has been completely ruled out of the IPL 2023.
Jasprit Bumrah's absence in MI is a serious concern for the franchise as his abilities are quite challenging to replicate by any bowler in the world. He has been the leader of the bowling attack for years now and has fulfilled his job overwhelmingly.
As of now, Jasprit Bumrah has successfully undergone back surgery and is on the path of recovery as he makes himself unavailable for the brand-new edition of the Indian Premier League. The speedster is expected to take a couple of months to get back to his bowling routine.
MI captain Rohit Sharma, during the pre-season press conference, hinted that his team is seeking a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in IPL 2023. Sharma said that the franchise is discussing a few options.
It's worth noting that Jasprit Bumrah's replacement becomes crucial for Mumbai Indians as they have already lost two pacers due to their respective injuries. Besides Bumrah, Australian pacer Jhye Richardson, who was signed by MI during IPL 2023 auction for INR 1.5 Crores, is also ruled out of the IPL 2023 after suffering a hamstring injury.
"We are looking for a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah. We are discussing one or two options. Hopefully, we will close this issue in a day or 2," Rohit Sharma said during a pre-tournament press conference.
"We have been talking about Bumrah. He is a big miss. Jasprit Bumrah's role was quite important for Mumbai Indians, it's a big shoe to fill. But it gives someone else an opportunity for the youngsters in the team to showcase their talent. We have a couple of guys who have been with this team for the last few years. They are very much ready to take the centre stage and hopefully can blood in some youngsters," he added.
Now, let us take a look at Players who can replace Jasprit Bumrah in IPL 2023 in MI Squad.
Players who can replace Jasprit Bumrah in IPL 2023
Dhawal Kulkarni
Dhawal Kulkarni is a household name in Mumbai Indians' set-up. The right-arm pacer has featured for MI in the past and is therefore one of the potential bowlers who can replace Jasprit Bumrah in the squad. He was part of the MI set-up in the previous edition and in 2020 as well.
The Mumbai-based pacer has a decent track record in the IPL as well. In 92 games, Kulkarni has scalped 86 wickets at an average of 28.77 and with an economy of 8.31. His strengths include deceiving batters in the powerplay with his moving deliveries and can also bowl in the middle phase of the innings.
Arzan Nagwaswalla
Gujarat-based pacer Arzan Nagwaswalla is another player who is in the reckoning to replace Jasprit Bumrah in Mumbai Indians (MI) for IPL 2023. Nagwaswalla has been part of Mumbai's squad in the domestic circuit, however, the pacer is yet to make his IPL debut.
The pacer could not attract any bidders during the IPL 2023 Mini-Auctions at a base price of INR 20 Lakhs.
Talking about Arzan's potential, the pacer has been performing excellently in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He has scalped 35 wickets from 25 games in the domestic T20 tournament at an impressive average of 16.62 and a compelling economy of 6.78.
