IPL 2024 Points Table: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) brought up their first away win of the season by defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium by 20 runs. Despite Rohit Sharma’s gritty ton, MI couldn’t go over the rope. CSK remained at the third spot in the IPL 2024 Points Table.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) posted a big 206 run total against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium owing to the healthy contributions from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, all-rounder Shivam Dube and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni.
Despite not starting on a solid note, CSK managed to pull things back and control things convincingly. The move to send Ajinkya Rahane to open the innings didn’t work out for them. To put a further dent in their innings, Rachin Ravindra extended his pale form.
However, the pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube did all the rebuilding and provided a rampage for a big total ahead. Gaikwad scored 69 runs off 40 deliveries, while Shivam Dube continued his onslaught till the end of the innings.
Dube was joined by MS Dhoni in the end to give a fitting end to the innings. Dhoni smoked three sixes off the final over of Hardik Pandya to take their side to 206 runs. Shivam Dube remained unbeaten at 66 runs in 38 deliveries.
Mumbai Indians (MI), though, got a brilliant start for the big chase, they couldn’t take it forward with two consecutive wickets on the bounce. Matheesh Pathirana got Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in the same over to put MI on the backfoot.
The hosts then got a little partnership between Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma. However soon Pathirana returned in his second spell to get rid of Tilak Varma as well.
Seasoned batter Rohit Sharma continued to bat at the other end, but Tushar Deshpande dismissed MI skipper Hardik Pandya.
MI kept sinking towards a defeat with untimely wickets. Danger men Tim David and Romario Shepherd were also dismissed in the subsequent overs and Rohit Sharma was left alone in the chase as he kept scoring boundaries.
Rohit Sharma completed his century in the final over of the innings, but the batter fell short to take his side to a win by 20 runs.
