IPL 2024 Points Table: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) brings up their fifth win of the seventeenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 78 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Subsequently, they also moved up in the IPL 2024 Points Table to sit comfortably in third place with 10 rating points post the win.
Batting first, CSK scored 212 runs in 20 overs in the loss of just three wickets. Once again skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad played the captain's knock by delivering a sensational 98-run innings in 54 deliveries upfront. The batter slammed three sixes and 10 boundaries during his stay in the middle.
Gaikwad was aided by Daryl Mitchell in the middle with his fantastic 32-ball 52 runs knock followed by Shivam Dube's unbeaten 39 runs handy contributions in just 20 deliveries.
Eventually, the team in yellow managed to pile up a mammoth 212 runs in their quota of 20 overs.
Although it was a massive total, given the reputation of SRH, it seemed a modest one at the start of the second innings. However, the same tactics don't work out often and similar happened with the SRH.
Their top-order batters, who had done the bulk of the scoring previously, failed to show up against the CSK bowlers. The likes of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Anmolpreet Singh and Aiden Markram were dismissed cheaply.
CSK, with the game in their control, didn't let the opposition stitch any big partnership throughout the game. Even with the likes of Heinrich Klasses, Nitish Reddy, Abdul Samad and Shahbaz Ahmad in the middle, CSK kept exerting pressure with their timely breakthroughs.
It would be safe to say that SRH had lost the game in the first six overs itself, when they lost their biggest superstars this season. It was then just some formality to do for the rest of the innings.
Eventually, Hyderabad was bundled out at 134 runs total in 18.5 overs and CSK won the contest by a massive 78 runs.

On the other side, SRH drops to fourth place following the loss. The Pat Cummins-led side has five wins to their name in nine outings so far. The Orange Army stands at a net run rate of 0.075.
