MI vs LSG Match Summary
Mumbai Indians (MI) had a horrible show during the entire edition of the ongoing IPL. The five-time IPL winners started off their run with a loss and ended with the same result. What happened in between was a string of losses and just four wins.
MI had some hopes until their former skipper Rohit Sharma was on the field, who looked in great touch, but he too couldn't do much for his side despite scoring a 38-ball 68 in a 214-run chase against LSG. Besides he and Naman Dhir, whose 28-ball 62-run fantastic innings kept MI in the hunt till the end, no other batters could get going against KL Rahul's LSG.
Mumbai got off to a good start, even though the openers seemed to have struggled a bit. Rohit Sharma remained the usual aggressor, and Dewald Bravis played the second fiddle for a bit. The two batters added 88 runs for the first wicket, which had a rain-forced break in between. The wicket of Dewald Bravis made the opening and then MI's batting collapsed like a house of cards.
Rohit Sharma, who was batting with aplomb, too couldn't resist for long with the wickets falling at the other end. Eventually, MI surrendered after scoring 196 runs in 20 overs and lost the game by 18 runs.
Earlier in the game, LSG scored 214 runs in 20 overs in the loss of 6 runs. The team couldn't get off to a great start with MI pacer Nuwan Thushara picking up Devdutt Padikkal for a duck in the first over. However, KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis got the innings back on track. The two added 48 runs to the total.
KL Rahul played a fine knock of 55 runs and LSG was on a decent roll by this time. But what really made them going was the blistering knock of Nicholas Pooran, who whacked MI bowlers at will.
Pooran added 75 runs to the total in just 29 deliveries including 8 towering sixes and 5 fours. His batting brilliance helped LSG post a total in excess of 200 runs, which wouldn't have been possible if it were not for him.
To finish off things on a brighter note, Ayush Badoni and Krunal Pandya hit a few boundaries and sixes to their side's overall total to 214 runs.
Let's take a look at the IPL Points Table (Updated) On 18th MAY after MI vs LSG:
