RCB vs CSK Match Summary

It was the kind of match where even fans were indifferent about whom to support, it was Virat Kohli vs Mahendra Singh Dhoni himself. Ruturaj won the flip of the coin, which he is not used to, and asked RCB to bat first. The weather websites had forecasted light rain in the early stage of the match and that exactly happened.

Virat and Faf made the most out of the first three overs of powerplay which were bowled by pacers. They scored 31 off the first 3 overs and then rain interrupted for a short time and luckily there was no deduction in the overs per side. The next three overs in the powerplay were bowled by spinners and they were getting huge assistance off the surface which had Kohli and Faf on the check.

The two openers added 78 runs for the first wicket and Virat Kohli was caught at the long-on at the personal score of 47 runs in 29 balls. As Virat left the crease, Faf took the assault and started bashing boundaries with Rajat Patidar who also went on full flow. Soon, Faf fell to an unfortunate runout at the bowler's end.

Green then combined with Patidar and took the CSK bowling by storm. He was there to stamp his arrival and he did so in fashion. With small cameos from Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell, RCB reached 218 runs and they needed to restrict CSK under 200 or they were going out of the tournament.

The chase started in animated style as Glenn Maxwell removed the opener skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in the very first ball of the chase. This was quite enough to light up the crowd and soon Yash dismissed Daryl Mitchell courtesy to Virat's brilliant catch. The RCB were in absolute control of the match.

Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra were in the crease but they didn't allow RCB to put pressure on them as they found boundaries in the crucial stages. CSK scored 58 runs even after losing two early wickets in the batting powerplay.

Rahane came with positive intent and it reflected in his shots and confident drives and so was Rachin Ravindra. CSK posted 85 runs in the first 9 overs when Lockie Ferguson struck in his first ball and dismissed Ajinkya Rahane (33).

Rachin Ravindra stood at the other end and posted a brilliant 61 off just 37 balls but he also lost his wicket in the crucial moment. Shivam Dube was struggling to even bat a ball and Green ended his 15-ball 7-run struggle. Santner also went back soon after him.

Dhoni and Jadeja were in the crease and both gave it their all in the final overs. CSK needed 17 runs in the final over to qualify for the playoffs even if they lose the game. Dhoni hit Yash Dayal for a 110-meter six in the first ball of the over but Yash dismissed MSD the next ball. 10 runs in the last two balls to qualify for CSK and Yash Dayal didn't allow a single run.

RCB defeated CSK by 27 runs and out of nowhere, they have made it to the playoffs of the TATA IPL 2024.
