The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has come to an end, and now the focus will shift to the upcoming ICC event. The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be played between February 19 and March 9. This tournament will have the top 8 teams competing against each other while the host, Pakistan, will defend their title.

India will play their matches in Dubai, including the knockouts if they qualify. The squad for the coming event is likely to be announced by the end of the second week of January, and some reports confirm that India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah might be given a big responsibility.

Bumrah recently had a record-breaking performance in the BGT series, where he ended with 32 wickets and won the Player of the Series award. And now, he is set to be the vice-captain of Team India in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

Jasprit Bumrah to assist Rohit Sharma as vice-captain for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 - Reports

Team India will host England for three ODIs and five T20Is ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as preparation for the mega event. Though there are high chances that India might rest Bumrah to manage his workload, he will be back for the ICC event as the vice captain of the team.

As per TOI, India are all set to announce the pacer as India's vice-captain for the event. That means Shubman Gill will be removed from this role, who was given this role during the ODI series in Sri Lanka. Bumrah has been one of India's consistent performers across all three formats. He was the MVP behind India's win in the T20 World Cup 2024 and also led India in the recently concluded BGT series in a couple of games.

There are high chances that he is likely to be the next Test captain after Rohit Sharma. He will be India's key player in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as well, leading the bowling attack. India are likely to announce their provisional squad later this week for the coming ICC event. If Bumrah is rested for England series, he will be back in action for ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
