Joe Root likely to leave England?s test captaincy after 3rd test against West Indies: England cricketer Joe Root has hinted at his resignation as the test captain of the side following the completion of the third test against West Indies in St George. Root, who is in sensational batting form, is likely to pass over the baton post crucial 3rd test match between England and West Indies, starting March 24.

Joe Root succeeded veteran batter, Alaster Cook, as the skipper of England?s test side back in February 2017 following the latter?s resignation. Since his appointment as the leader, Root has successfully led three lions to 27 test wins in 63 games of which 25 matches ended in a draw.?

The most successful England test skipper came under public scrutiny after his side failed miserably during the Ashes 2021-22 down under. Post an utterly disappointing Ashes outing, the visitors faced serious heat from fans and experts, as Australia swept England 4-0.

Since then people began to call out for Joe Root?s resignation as the test skipper. However, ignoring all the outside noise, Root continued as the captain and his side is currently touring West Indies for a three matches test series, of which two have ended in a draw.

Root, recently, said that he believes him to be the right man to lead England forward, however, if the coaches think otherwise, then his views come to a dead end.

?I think I?m the right man to take the team forward. But, if the head coach comes in and thinks differently, that?s fine, that?s their decision,? Joe Root was quoted by Mirror prior to the start of the third test against West Indies.

I am a massive England fan: Joe Root

He further said that he will continue to do what suits England best, regardless of his position in the team.

?I?m a massive England fan. I just want to see us do well. So I?ll keep doing everything I can to make us as good as we can be and if that means in time I?m no longer in this position, I?ll still do everything I can to help this team and to try to take us to be the best team in the world. That will never change,? he added.

Joe Root, 31, has been a phenomenal batter in the traditional format of cricket. He has bossed everywhere he toured with his bat striking the red cherry quite perfectly. It won?t be wrong to say that he has been a lone warrior in the team for quite some time now.

During India?s tour of England 2021 and the Ashes 2021-22, Root alone aggregated runs for the team. Every time he walked off after his dismissal, England saw an undeniable collapse.

The 31-years old has scored a total of 9884 runs in 116 matches with a staggering average of just below 50. In the longest format career, Root has smashed 25 tons and 53 half-centuries.
