Mumbai Indians is my biggest inspiration says Sanjeev Goenka, Lucknow franchise owner: Sanjeev Goenka, the owner of the Lucknow based Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, has hailed Mumbai Indians (MI) for their commendable success in the IPL. He said that the Reliance Industries owned IPL franchise is his ?biggest inspiration?.
Mumbai Indians (MI) have bagged as many as five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles, most by any franchise. The franchise overcame its title draught back in 2013 when the captaincy was handed over to young Rohit Sharma midway through the tournament. Since then, the team in blue and gold has fetched five titles in the T20 league.
Goenka, who won the operating rights of Lucknow by shelling out INR 7090 Crores, reckons that Mumbai Indians's successful template is not only effective for the IPL franchises but every sports franchise should try to emulate that.
?The biggest inspiration for me is Mumbai Indians. What they have achieved, and how they have gone about it, is a template for not only other IPL teams but sports franchises worldwide,? said Sanjeev Goenka during an interaction with TOI.
He also said that the BCCI should completely scrap the mega auction as it has outlived its utility.
?I have to follow the system [mega auctions]. I have no role in the rules and regulations [of the IPL],? he added.

Gautam Gambhir will have motivational role:
Goenka further explained the exact role given to the former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir in the IPL 2022. It is noteworthy that Gambhir has been appointed the Lucknow team?s mentor.
?Gautam will primarily have a motivational role to play,? he said. ?He will also help to create a blueprint for the franchise in the long term. We wanted to have people with a proven track record of success. Gautam has also successfully groomed a generation of youngsters for KKR and that went in his favour.?
?He has an image of being a totally non-partisan leader with a focus on results. Look at what he did for KKR. Fundamentally we would like the dressing room to be geared towards a culture of performance,? Goenka added.
Gautam Gambhir was overwhelmed with the role he was given. The cricketer was elated with joy and said, ?The fire to win a contest still burns bright inside me. The desire to leave a winner?s legacy still kicks me 24?7. I will not be contesting for a dressing room but for the spirit and soul of Uttar Pradesh.?
