IPL 2021: Punjab CM wants BCCI to include Mohali as the venue for IPL 2021.
IPL 2021: Truly stunned with the exclusion of Mohali from the BCCI?s shortlisted venues to host the IPL 2021 games, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Captain Amrinder Singh wants BCCI to review the decision.
BCCI recently released the probable venues for the fourteenth edition of IPL. According to the list Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Mumbai are targetted venues. After the surge in the covid-19 cases, BCCI is likely to snub Mumbai as the venue.
According to the reports of The Indian Express, BCCI was forced to opt-out of Mohali from the list due to the sole danger of ongoing farmer?s protest in the state.
?We don?t want a situation to arise where we have an IPL match in Mohali and a farmer agitation march moves towards the stadium. It will attract media attention from all over the world. We don?t want such a situation to arise. Mohali is not among shortlisted venues due to the current scenario in the northern part of India,? a top BCCI official told the paper.
While Captain Amrinder Singh has assured the BCCI of all the safety and precautions for the safe conduct of the games.
?I am surprised at the exclusion of Mohali Cricket Stadium for the upcoming IPL season. I urge and appeal to @BCCI & @IPL to reconsider their decision. There is no reason why Mohali can't host IPL and our Government will make all necessary arrangements for safety against #Covid19,? said Punjab CM Captain Amrinder Singh.
Punjab Cricket Stadium in Mohali is the home ground of Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab).
The state authorities have shown tremendous effort to restrict the virus. As of now, Punjab covid- cases tally is relatively low as compared to the big cities. On Thursday 635 new cases were recorded which takes the overall tally to 4,853.
The thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was held in UAE with empty stadiums.? However, this time it is likely that BCCI will include 50 per-cent crowd to watch the action live from the stands.
