Vivo IPL 2021: South African cricketers felt safe in Bio-Secure Environment in IPL said Graeme Smith.
Vivo IPL 2021: Graeme Smith, Director of Cricket South Africa, on Friday ruled out all the queries regarding the player?s safety in the now-postponed Vivo IPL 2021 and said that none of the country?s players felt unsafe in India during their stay for the elite competition.
The fourteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) unfortunately suspended midway on 4th May due to multiple covid cases emerging inside the Bio-bubbles.
?In no way would we judge. Having spoken to the players, they felt safe. They felt the BSE (Bio-Secure Environment) was a really good experience in India. They never felt at risk. But that?s the nature of what COVID brings,? said Graeme Smith, a former South Africa captain, said during a news conference.
Smith said that amid the ongoing pandemic, no can be blamed and conducting the competition is always at risk.
?Sometimes you can do whatever you want but the BSE ? as we?ve said to everyone ? is never foolproof. When COVID is raging in your country there?s always a risk. Unfortunately once it gets inside it?s very difficult to predict what?s going to happen.?
The former South African cricketer also praised the BCCI?s and respective franchises efforts to send the players back to their respective countries. The 11 South African cricketers who were part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will land in Johannesburg by Friday.
?The BCCI has done an exemplary job in getting everyone to their countries safely.?
?For the South Africans, the borders are fortunately not closed and the players can come to their homes easily.?
