T20 World Cup 2024: Declining his skipper's public request to play for West Indies in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, Sunil Narine closes all the doors for his international Return.
The Trinidadian player Sunil Narine is spitting fire from his bat and ball this season in the Indian Premier League. Playing for KKR for the last 13 years, he has created and broken numerous records, be it his batting or bowling.
After Gautam Gambhir rejoined the Kolkata Knight Riders management, Narine started to open for KKR again and this time he is a different beast altogether. This season, he has scored 286 runs with an average of 40 and a whooping strike rate of over 176 with bat and picked up 9 wickets in 7 games with an economy of 6 runs per over.
This impressive performance has caught many West Indian minds if he can add big value to the West Indies Squad in the home T20 World Cup this year. The skipper of WI Rowman Powell is one of those and he even publically requested Narine to take down his international retirement but this time, Sunil Narine has come up with a public notice.
Sunil Narine Closes doors for International Comeback
In an Instagram post, Sunil Narine expressed his feelings and said he was "flattered and humbled" by the admiration he received. He wrote "I hope this message finds you all well and in good health. I?m truly flattered and humbled that my performances recently have moved many people to publicly express their wish for me to come out of retirement and play in the upcoming T20 World Cup"
He thinks other players are more deserving, who are working hard for past years to earn that World Cup spot and said that the doors of his international comeback are closed completely.
"I have made peace with that decision and whilst I never wish to disappoint, that door is now closed and I will be supporting the guys who take the field in June for West Indies. Guys who have worked hard for the past few months and deserve to show our wonderful fans that they are capable of winning another title - I wish you all the best," he added.
